I went with for himself because I like your analogy that he did it to keep a piece of House there no matter what. I also like to think that making House happy, makes him happy too. Realistically he did it for House too. Actually it's probably a healthy mix of both.

Wilson's a manipulative bitch.

That said, he bought the organ ultimately for himself. Wilson can't play. It's nothing amazing to look at. But what it means is that he is choosing House to be a permanent fixture. He wants House to stay there, and he thinks that says something about himself.

Additionally, I could watch the animated eyesex gif for hours. He starts off kinda cute/happy, and gradually moves into more of a gaze of affection/wanting.

What I'm wondering is why he didn't go get House's piano from House's place. Maybe he's afraid House will take it back with him if/when he leaves.

I think he bought it for himself. Yes, he bought it to make House happy, but making House happy makes him happy. Would you want a miserable House as a roommate? When House is unhappy, everyone is unhappy.

The not being able to buy stuff for himself goes back to the bed-shopping with Amber. He bought a bed that Amber liked even though Amber kept trying to persuade him to buy a bed that HE liked.

Well I wouldnt say that Wilson is afraid of that, mostly because it's obvious that if/when House moves out he would definitely want his piano with him. But having a piano in Wilson's place is like an invite for House to spend time there, since Wilson himself has no use for a piano.

Exactly, but with the piano Wilson clearly liked the gift too and wanted to have it there, even if it was only for House's use.

One of Wilson's basic impulses is to please others, and the person he would most want to please is House. Let's face it, these guys adore each other. (DUH...) And House challenged Wilson to pick ONE item of furniture that expressed his personality. So he bought the organ for House. If this were a heterosexual couple, we wouldn't even be debating this. It is a wonderful, loving gesture. In making House happy, he makes himself happy. That's how love works.

But Wilson's relationship with House is clearly very different than his relationship with everyone else, he doesn't try to be nice with House and I dont think he would go to such lengths to please him either, not when he knows that House is the kind of guy who would take advantage of that. They know each other too well for Wilson to act the way he does with everyone else.
