Probably equal parts "jerk" and equal parts "boy scout." He slept with the patient partially to get a place to live, didn't he? And there was some suggestion it was part of his liking needy people -- she needed someone, so he became that someone.
Being divorced three times might not mean he's a jerk, just that he sucks at relationships.
No, he didn't sleep with the patient to get a place to live. He moved in with the patient to take care of her, and then the sleeping together happened.
He violated one of the pillars of medical ethics and should have been punished for that. But he didn't do it for overtly selfish reasons.
Wilson is both things, which is what makes him awesome. He's 90% good guy and 10% jerk -- and the thing House doesn't value is that Wilson tries to be 0% jerk. He doesn't manage it, but he tries.
Ugh, I can't answer! I just don't think it's that black and white! He's like the perfect combination of jerk and nice guy. I definitely don't think he's as much of a jerk as House, but he has to be some sort of jerk or House probably wouldn't like him. At least, he wouldn't like him as much as he does.
I think it's this combination of jerk/not jerk that makes for House and Wilson's great friendship. Wilson needs to have the 'boy scout' quality to stick with House and the 'jerk' quality to tolerate him! Vice versa I think House needs someone who actually cares about him and yet needs someone who can be jerky back to him, keep him on his toes, so to speak.
Anyhoo, yeah, didn't vote because I wanted to vote for both. lol!
I think that Wilson, deep down,is a jerk.He asked House to risk his life for his own girlfriend, left him, cheated on two of his wives, and stole Cuddy's place(though I can forgive the last one). But,I dunno,he actually bothers to pretend to care, which makes him less of a jerk than House.I suppose House got it right when he said "As long as you're trying to be nice, you can do whatever you want."
I can't exactly remember the conversation in "The Social Contract," but early on House criticizes Wilson's nice-guy persona. House often does that, because Wilson is part jerk...which is to mean, aren't we all, on some level, jerks? Wilson definitely has his dark side, his needy side, his slightly sadistic side. But he does have that cute boy scout exterior and as 'Wilson' showed, he is a genuinely caring, attentive doctor. (On the other hand, after he has what he thinks is an epiphany, he says to House, "Patients eat that crap up." That line genuinely shocked me. But it's a tribute to how layered he is. I voted "Yes" although there should be a middle of the road option, because he's both.

That's the first time I've ever heard that, so I don't think there's anything to it. They would have hinted at that on the show if that were the case.
