Dear Festividder 2019

FESTIVIDS TIME IS UPON US AGAIN!!!! < Dr. Burns fingers > MOST excellent.

The short version is: WHOO VIDS \o/ I AM EXCITED TO SEE WHAT YOU MAKE ME!!

The long version:

So, before we get into fandoms, general things about me + music + vids! So, I've actually got some lyrical processing issues; I don't tend to hear 80-90% of individual lyrics when I listen to a song-the lyrics are more like another instrument in the music to me, unless I already know what they are. (Musical theater tends to be much easier for me to process. Rap tends to be much harder.) This leads to two things: one, if your vid concept is relying super heavily on the specific lyrics of the song to do the heavy lifting in getting your point across, unless I happen to already be really familiar with the song, it's probably not going to make a lot of sense to me (a lyrics link/transcription is much appreciated!); and two, I'm pretty sensitive to a "tonal mismatch" between the music and the source/message (unless that's specifically intentional and part of the statement the vid is making, in which case, carry on!) The latter generally only happens when the former is going on, but I figured I'd mention both, because this is one of the few things that will genuinely "throw me out" of a vid. (I also want to say that this is only a very small percentage of vids, so I wouldn't stress about it TOO much.)

Beyond that, I'm pretty open to most any kind of music. My "pop music" (and I use the phrase "pop music" here the way my mother does, to mean anything that is not classical or musical theater-which is what I grew up on) knowledge is utterly woeful, and so I enjoy being introduced to new music through vids! I also totally dig vids to really popular songs that I already know (as stated above, it means I'll probably already know the lyrics!) Instrumental is cool too! Basically, don't feel limited by music genre or recognizability (with the caveat that, as previously stated, rap tends to be particularly hard for me to process, and when lacking a melody, it usually just sounds like a lot of percussion to me, so perhaps stay away from that.)

For DNWs, I have severe arachnophobia and an animal death trigger. I also have a host of religion-related triggers; please do not use any Christmas or religious Christian music. I don't think anything else should come up when vidding these fandoms, but if you want details (they may be relevant for BFU, depending on if you try to do something more conceptual/AU/whatever???) see my ITPE letter this year.

Fandom specifics time!

YOUTUBE STUFF
(tl;dr give me the entire UNHINGED side of that original "Feral<->Proper/Unhinged<->Silly Billy" chart)

Buzzfeed Unsolved, Ruining History, Buzzfeed Worth It

With the Buzzfeed stuff, I am so so sorry if you are not here for the RPF/shipping aspect; that is mostly what I'm here for >.> Ryan/Shane and Ryan/Shane/Sara [Buzzfeed Unsolved, Ruining History] are my OTP(/OT3) rn, and I love them so much. The bickery dynamic! Loling at each other being idiots! Being kind of married! It's so good for me. I'm extremely on the Shaniac side of things (I'm fairly positive I'm actually more extreme in my non-belief than he is), and I think the Hot Daga is a hilarious artistic masterpiece. I do actually love the True Crime stuff; the Supernatural stuff is really only interesting to me for the good bickering & relationship dynamics, plus, of course, Ryan's reactions XD Ruining History is also a fun time-the moments when Ryan & Sara team up against Shane are my FAVORITE FOREVER.

I will probably never be over how INCREDIBLY Soft And Married Steven/Andrew [Buzzfeed Worth It] are. THEY ARE SO SOFT AND MARRIED. My GOD, the heart eyes involved here, it's just. A Lot. Wow. I am into anything about them that is about just how in love they are, basically. I do also love Noted Precious Cinnamon Roll Adam, although I have slightly less feelings about him than Steven & Andrew. I can be here for the food porn & lovely cinematography, but lbr, that's not why I watch the show, so I'm much less interested in something focusing largely on that aspect.

For all of these sources, please feel free to use other videos/sources containing these people as necessary-the Berry Boys video, Shane & Ryan getting styled by Ladylike, any of Sara's Buzzfeed videos (the "Do I have a crush?" series with Shane!!), all of the relevant Sims videos from In Control With Kelsey, PLUS all social media content, etc. (Note: please don't use all of Steven's super religious soical media shit, there's a reason I specifically don't follow him anywhere.)

Unraveled

Brian David Gilbert is absolute unbridled chaotic nerd energy that is so powerfully compelling, I cannot look away, and I love it. (Also, lbr, he is more or less one of my BFFs
queelez's younger, hotter, funnier, internet famous doppleganger, and if you think that's mean, that's basically a direct quote from Graham himself, so. I was predisposed to have a fondness for him.) I definitely low-key (high key) ship Brian/Pat, and can be here for Brian/Pat/Simone, but I'd also be thrilled with something just showcasing & celebrating his complete ridiculousness, because HE IS A MOST RIDICULOUS HUMAN creating MOST RIDICULOUS CONTENT. Like with Buzzfeed, feel free to use other BDG Polygon content like Gill & Gilbert or his appearances on Overboard, or his personal YouTube channel & social media stuff. (Bonus points for Zuko appearances, PETS ARE VERY IMPORTANT!!!!)

STEPCEST FANDOMS

Billy & Billie

I (and all twelve people on twitter who sent me the links when it was first announced, lol) am pretty sure that this show was ACTUALLY just pulled directly out of my brain. It's literally just an entire show that is, "fucked up adult stepcest relationship, that's it, that's the show." It's sooooo id-y for me. I am super extremely about Billy & Billie's relationship, both in a "I ship them like burning" and "this is kind of fucked up" way. Any vid you wanna make me about them & their relationship would be awesome. (Although uhhhhh I definitely OTP them deep in my soul so maybe noooot something that's like "this relationship is 100% Awful And Toxic"?) I especially love Billie, she is genuinely one of my favorite TV characters and I identify with her strongly in a lot of ways. And though it doesn't qualify as a safety fandom, this is a show that is only four and a half hours long (plus an extremely optional hour long finale special that doesn't actually contain any footage that's likely to be helpful for vidding), so even if you've never watched it before, if you have ANY interest, you can consume the entire thing in an afternoon. Also hey, speaking of, did you need source for this? *whistles innocently*

Life With Derek

MY! TIME! HAS! COME!!! Friends, it's been a decade since my forever fandom, the eternal Show Of My Heart, has ended, which means that it's now dead enough that it qualifies for FV. Do you want the less explicit, less fucked up, all around more Disney-fied stepcest? Do you like kind of terrible Disney/Family Channel shows aimed at tweens from the mid-00s? Do you want to vid a multiseason TV fandom where you don't have to worry about finding source because I'm about to give it all to you on a silver platter? THEN WELCOME, COMRADES, TO L I F E W I T H D E R E K.

Life With Derek was originally pitched as a Brady Bunch update (not reboot!), where not everyone gets along immediately and the parents both have exes who are alive and show up, and there are slightly fewer kids. These days, it's mostly remembered as that one show where everyone who watched for even 5 minutes thought the stepsiblings were dating (and shoutout to everyone who sent me this tweet, I stopped counting after 6 XD). It aired on Disney Channel in the US from 2005-2009, but was a co-production with the Family Channel in Canada, and was set in & produced in Canada; technically it falls under the C6D fandom umbrella because as we all know, there are only 12 actors in Canada, and a couple are in this show. (There's a LOT of casting crossover with Degrassi and Radio Free Roscoe, if you ever watched those.) It's DEEPLY Canadian in many ways, if that is a thing that appeals to you.

Casey and the titular Derek are the oldest of the five stepsiblings-they're in Grade 10 when the show starts. The show is largely from Casey's POV; Casey is a Type A Uptight Nerd™ who loves studying, dance, theater, planning, following rules, and everything being fair and organized and perfect. Derek is a douchey popular class clown Bad Boy™ (with a secret heart of gold) who is captain of the hockey team, the most eligible bachelor in school, and likes always getting his way and never being told what to do. As you can imagine, when they meet...sparks fly. (Yeah, they hate each other on sight.)

At its core, Life With Derek is the answer to the question "what if you took a totally stereotypical teen Uptight Female Nerd Meets Douchey Popular Guy With Secret Feelings story and made them live in the same house and be sort of related (by marriage)". There are other characters-their parents and other siblings, their respective best friends who are Extremely Longsuffering, the guidance counselor who Casey has a standing appointment with who definitely Knows What's Up-but Casey & Derek are the heart of the show and really what's important.

Normally this is the type of show that people would come to me for source on, since it's a decade old niche cable show, so I'm going to save you the legwork and just link it all to you here. There were DVDs released of the first three seasons, so I've got DVD rips of those for you: Season 1, Season 2, Season 3. Season 4 was never released on DVD; it's APPARENTLY available on iTunes in SD right now, but I've been having trouble finding someone who's cracked the DRM on that, so I'll probably end up having to do it myself, but yada yada technical spiel about how Requiem is difficult to use now since it stopped updating and I'll probably have to set up a virtual machine to do it and I haven't gotten around to doing that so IN THE MEAN TIME, here are the TV rips I've had since they aired on TV; they are NOT great quality and they're not CONSISTENT quality but they're better than nothing. To make up for that, I am possibly the only person around on the internet who's got a DVD-quality rip of the TV movie that aired at the end of the series bc I got one of the like, press release DVDs from the production studio on eBay recently, so reap the benefits of my obsessive alerts I still have set up on this series!

In terms of vidding this fandom...........look, if it's a Derek/Casey vid, I will cherish it forever, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not picky. FOREVER FANDOM! FOREVER OTP!!!!!!

LOOK EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO VID THIS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SLIDE INTO MY DMS TO YELL ABOUT THIS SHOW WITH MEEEE ;___________;

HARD MODE & EASY MODE

Can't get behind either RPF or stepcest? Want a particularly hard challenge, or maybe it's less than a week until the deadline and you're panicking? Not to worry, I have options for you still!

KyloR3n | Emo Kylo Ren

Look, this Twitter account is objectively The Best Fanon Kylo Ren. Sorry, FACTS ONLY, I'm right. It cracks me the FUCK up. That account is Art-from the profile being "ren's rights activist", down to the fact that it only follows two accounts: Darth Vader, and Hot Topic. It's somehow simultaneously...
Frequently it is doing some combination/all of the above in one tweet (yes, it has been a year and a half and I'm STILL fucking howling at his search history of "how to know if someone is your sibling", ART!!!!!)

From the ongoing storylines about how his mom is replacing him with Poe Dameron, his dedication to playing his clarinet and oboe, and his ongoing love/hate relationship with Hot Topic (don't sleep on all their replies to him!), to the deeply relatable sentiment, " current status: in a sarlacc pit, but emotionally", anything you can craft out of this very specific constructed parody characterization into vid form would absolutely delight me.

I'm not sure there's a good way you can do this without using any Sequels footage-which, it goes without saying is NOT an eligible FV fandom-but as long as it's very clear that the vid is for THIS SPECIFIC VERSION of Kylo Ren, I'm totally fine with that, and I assume the mods will call that kosher.

Newsies [SAFETY]

This is an extremely old-school throwback fandom of mine, and while I have a few vids for it, I don't have any good ol' classic Shippy Slash Vids for Jack/David, and I feel like that is absolutely a thing that ought to be remedied, you know? Hit me with your SCHMOOPIEST. This movie is truly The Gayest, so I can't imagine that it'd be too difficult ;)

BONUS CROSSOVER REQUEST!

So I'm not sure how kosher this is, but when I realized that I'd actually requested the entire UNHINGED side of this classic tumblr alignment chart, I ALSO realized that, even though I haven't requested them, both My Brother, My Brother and Me (TV) and John Mulaney RPF are ALSO nominated this year for FV. So, if you want to make me a short treat or whatever that is like, somehow this chart but in jokey-vid form?? I would laugh forever <3

If you'd like any more details about anything, please feel free to comment here anonymously, or if you prefer,
