Canon: Fate/stay night

Pull Point: After his death in the Fate route.

Background Info:

History:  Gilgamesh on Type-Moon Wikia

Personality: For someone claiming to be the "King of Heroes", Gilgamesh really doesn't seem all that heroic to those that know his past. He was originally the tyrant king of Uruk, who rather than actually took care of his people like a good king would, did only as he pleased. He abused his power to take any virgin woman he wished, and he constantly butted heads with gods. He has an ego that rivals that of even the most notorious gods of legend, and for good reason. Not only is he the 'first' hero of history, but he has amassed a huge treasury which contains just about anything he could ever want, most notably the original version of every sword in history.

What drives Gilgamesh is his pursuit of power. Not satisfied with merely being the first hero of history, he seeks to become the absolute most powerful king and hero of all time, and will go to any length to obtain it. This can result in him forming temporary alliances with people he considers below himself, but only if he believes they can somehow help him accomplish his end goal. He's not above abandoning them at a moment's notice, nor disposing of them himself.

His ego also serves as a major disadvantage and weakness. Since he places himself on such a high scales, there's no way anyone could ever possibly beat him, right? This causes him to be less than serious in his fights, often completely underestimating his opponent and opening the way for him to suffer a rather humiliating defeat.

Gilgamesh DOES have a few good qualities. Namely his loyalty to his best friend, Enkidu, who is the only person he has ever considered his equal. They were the best of friends and did pretty much everything together. Even killed one of the god's beasts that was terrorizing Gilgamesh's people for years. This lead to his people seeing him as a hero, and probably is the main reason he is considered the first hero of history. Of course, killing the beast also lead to the death of his best friend, which caused another drastic change in Gilgamesh. Never before had he feared anything, but seeing his best friend die shocked some sense into him. He began to obsess over the idea of living forever, and attempted to find some way to do so. In the end, he was denied that right and realized that even someone as great as him must face death some day.

There's also a part of him that, while he may never admit it to anyone else, wishes he could have been a better king to his people.

Game Specific:

Arcana: Devil

Justification:
-Lust and obsession: With the only woman that has ever denied his advances. Saber will never see things his way, but he's not going to give up on her any time soon. He's always loved a good challenge. Oh, and power.
-Knowledge of one’s own desires: He obviously knows what he wants, and sees no shame in it. From his flashy golden armor and golden earrings, to the nearly constant abuse of his Gate of Babylon. And not to mention Seibaaaa.
-Greed: His desire to obtain more power, along with owning literally every sword  weapon in history. Despite having no idea how to wield most of them.
-Abuse: He's used to abusing his authority and power to get what he wants.
-Emotional turmoil: He was DEVASTATED by the loss of Enkidu. So much so that he began to fear his own mortality and went on a journey to discover the secret to immortality. That totally went well.

Samples:

First Person Sample:

[Gilgamesh has been talking since his arrival in Prospero, but seeing how he just barely discovered how to operate this damnable piece of technology, everyone will be greeted to the blonde king mid-rant. He doesn't look too happy at the moment.]

--must really be a failure of a magus to summon me into a flesh body like this. Further more, I can not access my treasury. I demand an explanation for this, mongrel.

[A brief pause, and then that grumpy frown turns into a smug grin.]

Oh, I think I understand now. This is a test, isn't it? To see if the King of Heroes is truly that great of a man without his treasury. Very well, but don't expect me to hold back like usual. If a fight with a real king is what you want, you've got it. Just don't expect to be walking away without a missing limb. Or your life.

Third Person Sample:

So, this was it. The final battle. He could either prove that he truly was the king of heroes by defeating this otherworldly monstrosity that stood before him, or die like the rest of his pathetic 'party'. Just how had this happened in the first place? Gilgamesh was the one to push them on to the next floor. He had effortlessly killed nearly every enemy thus far, and doubted that anything could really stand in his way. Even without his servant status or powers, he was still a force to be reckoned with. One does not become the King of Heroes without knowing how to defend oneself.

His party laid at the giant's feet. He had forced them to attack before him, as he stood back and surveyed just how the beast would move and attack. Their sacrifices would allow him to gain valuable insight, and help him in his victory. He had never once thought about how they felt, why should he? Everyone should be willing to sacrifice their life for a king as great as him.

Unlike the previous Grail Wars he had participated in, Gilgamesh actually had to strategize in this place. He couldn't just rush in and impale the enemy with the many swords of his treasury. He had to know when to evade, when to strike, and when to go for the killing blow. He had already struggled with the beast for several minutes, and both showed signs of fading life. He wasn't immortal. He had lost the chance at obtaining that so many years ago. This human body lacked the the enhancements his servant status gave him, but he still refused to die before his enemy was killed. He would never suffer that sort of humiliation again.

He summoned up his last bit of strength before delivering the final blow to the beast, its dying cries flooding the all too silent floor. He had done it. He proved that he was still an excellent warrior without the need for his fancy abilities and treasury. He knew it all along. He would then collapse to the ground from utter exhaustion, giving a final smug grin before passing out.
