Hotels

Does anyone know anyway to get REALLY good deals on hotels? Really I don't care about quality but at this point we really can't even afford a Best Western. But Alex wants me to find one anyways since he is probably going to have to be out of town for my spring break. That way we can have at least one night the first day I get into town ( Read more... )

From experience going to the hotel itself is the best way. Either on the internet, through their own website not a travel website, or calling them (this is typically the best).

I've yet to find a great deal using those travel sites. It's always cheaper (money wise, I suppose not time wise) to book everything seperately, at least for me.

My boss always calls the hotels and asks for any specials they have going on. Normally there's something. Good luck!

I could get you an excellent deal on Delta hotels, but they're only found in Canada.

I don't usually recommend these sites because things tend to go wrong at check-in, but check out http://www.hotwire.com/. The only catch with this site is you don't know exactly what hotel you're getting until you book. You choose the general area, and what features you want (pool, restaurant, that sorta thing) and then after you book, it tells you what hotel it is. But they're usually very decent hotels at very decent prices (usually). If you do book on this website (or any other), always confirm and reconfirm with the hotel before going.

Don't use hotwire! We never used hotwire in our lives, but somehow they got ahold of Jason's credit card number (he used a few unsecured sites to buy Christmas presents) and charged him $614 and then credited him immediately for $609. He ended up calling hotwire and asking about it and they had no record of him but wanted to check my name and information (even though I'm not on the account). It was really fishy. I wouldn't use them.

thanks colleen. unfortunately, i dont think we could make it into canada, unless delta has any hotels in windsor? i will have driving for twelve hours already that day and am not looking for much of a road trip!

I'll check out hotwire. It might be worth it... but i know what you mean and about how frustrating it is to not know until you've booked. I really appriciate the help hun.

nope. not chicago, hes going to chicago, but since we dont have any place we can be together... then we were just going to get a hotel somewhere around where we live... so like suburbs of detroit. There are a lot of businessy hotels around all the auto plants, but even those are kind of pricy. Thanks Kat.

yea, the problem is that most of those airline sites will only give you a deal if youre getting a flight too. so i end up stuck with regular rates. or like... five bucks off which doesnt really help in the long run. Thanks though sarah!

I've always used Expedia or Orbitz or Hotels.com and never had an issue with things going wrong. We got a great deal on our hotel in Canada over New Year's on Hotels.com.
