Like all young trolls on Alternia, Nepeta would have begun her life as a grub in the caves and fought for survival during the trials there before pupating into her more humanoid form. It's been revealed however that unlike most trolls but like the others who she played sgrub with, Nepeta wasn't given birth to by the mother grub - her grub form was instead a paradox clone created by Karkat in the ectobiology lab on the asteroid during their game session and sent back in time to eventually become herself and do everything she'd already done.
The lusus that chose to be her guardian was the feline-like lusus Pounce De Leon, and from what little was shown of them spending time together it looked like they had a very good and easy relationship, something which not all trolls are lucky enough to have with their lusus. Nepeta used to curl up against Pounce to do her roleplaying and they used to go off adventuring together, searching for the Fountain of Cute with Nepeta riding on Pounce's back, or Pounce riding on Nepeta's if she got tired which did seem to happen rather often. But while Pounce was an agreeable lusus to live with it doesn't seem like she taught Nepeta too much about properly interating into troll society, or if she did Nepeta wasn't listening too closely, because the green-blooded troll seemed to prefer to spend her time roleplaying and pretending to be a ferocious yet cute kitty than anything else. This was probably why Equius used to emphasize so much on what a troll of her blood colour should and shouldn't be doing (besides his obsessions with the hemospectrum, of course).
In fact she choose a cave as a hive to live in instead of building one, and at some point she picked up the habit of drawing her adventures on the walls in the blood of her kills, and keeping track of all the possible romances between the trolls that were her friends on her shipping wall. She hunted her food down with nothing but her claws and teeth, an impressive feat considering her age and the vicious monsters that populated Alternia. And yet Nepeta was actually one of the friendlier and less violent trolls - she always killed to eat, not to be mean or hurt anyone.
It's not been revealed how long she and Equius had been moirails, but considering their level of understanding it had probably been a while. From the outside it often looked like he was being bossy and mean in trying to control her life, and yet he'd kept her from potentially very serious harm when he forbid her from FLARPing with some of the other trolls. He also was the one who insisted, to her dismay, that she play on the blue team with him during sgrub, and yet in spite of wanting to play with her friends on the red team she still listened to him and did what he said (with a good deal of grumbling).
Once they actually enter the game not much was shown about what Nepeta did in it - she met up with Equius in her world (Land of Little Cubes and Tea) and took part in some fights there and then helped with fighting the end boss before everything went to hell and the surviving trolls found themselves in the lab on the asteroid. There she was sent to hide by Equius when Gamzee went on his rampage, and accidentally witnessed her moirail being murdered by him. She leaped out with the intention of avenging him, only to be slaughtered herself.

Nepeta is kind and silly and gentle, especially for a troll. Unlike her moirail Equius, she doesn’t believe in the Hemospectrum and makes friends with anyone she can, trying to make friends with some of the humans too. She prefers living in a cave to a normal hive and likes painting stories on the walls with blood from her kills and ash, as well as keeping a shipping wall charting lots of possible and actual different relationships between the other trolls she knows (not to mention a secret OTP drawing of her and ‘Karkitty’, referring to her unrequited crush on Karkat).
She is however quite strong and a capable hunter, killing large, dangerous animals with just her claws and teeth in order to eat them - though she does say she’d never kill anything she wasn’t going to eat, because it would be mean. Equius can’t convince her to stop doing it, at any rate, even though she knows he finds it distasteful. A predator’s gotta do what a predator’s gotta do, and it seems like she works off most of her natural aggression as a troll in this way, leaving her free to be cute and cuddly the rest of the time.
She loves roleplaying, engaging in it nearly constantly, even when just poking one of the other trolls over Trollian for a chat. She never takes part in the more dangerous flarping though, and it’s strongly implied it’s because Equius had forbidden her to some time ago, saving her from getting hurt in the incidents that cost Tavros his legs, Terezi her sight, Vriska her arm and Aradia her life (although Nepeta didn’t find out about that until later). She’s good friends with Terezi and Tavros and Aradia and roleplays a lot with all of them.
She likes rping that she’s a mother cat caring for her cubs, and when Terezi’s character threatened one of them she tried pacifying her rather than immediately engaging in outright combat. It’s also how she is with Equius and most likely all the other people she really cares about - extremely protective and caring.
One could say that Equius is one of the most important people in her life. Her moirail can be bossy and sometimes downright mean in the way he tries to rule some aspects of her life, but she knows he isn’t doing it to be cruel and even though she doesn’t always listen, he does usually manage to keep her out of trouble. In return she helps the blueblood troll remain calm and sane. She’s the only one who really manages to get close to him and to get him to open up about his feelings in canon.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
As a troll she’s stronger than a human, and she also hunts down wild animals with nothing but her teeth and claws. Her strife specibus is in fact CLAWKIND and she’s very proficient at using them, even managing to get a hit in on Gamzee before he got the best of her. She also has a very sharp sense of smell and can see in very dim light, nearly in the dark. She’s also quite in tune with the trolls around her and the relationships between them, actually guessing at some potential quadrants before they actually happen. And last but not least in terms of strengths she's a pro putting up with Equius and keeping him calm! Most trolls would agree that’s a fine ability indeed.
Her naivety is something that’s often been close to getting her in trouble, such as when she nearly went flarping with some of the other trolls. Her protectiveness over her friends can be a weakness too, as she might easily end up putting herself in danger for them. It’s what made it possible for Gamzee to kill her when she leapt out of her hiding place after seeing him kill Equius (albeit too late to do anything but attempt to avenge him). Like all trolls, she’s also got sensitive eyes, which means she can go blind in very bright sunlight. Trolls are used to being in such constant danger that it's doubtful she fears much outside of her friends being killed or seriously hurt, but her catlike traits do hint that she probably isn't all that fond of water or getting wet. Oh, and nothing is likely to fluster her as much as her unrequited crush on Karkat becoming public knowledge!

Nepeta is the Rogue of Heart and while her powers aren't specified in canon, her theme is cats and with what she's shown to be able to do it's very likely that her abilities involve having increased senses and balance and reflexes, just like a cat.
