deathly hallows part 2 thoughts

Jul 16, 2011 11:57

saw it last night! Mostly loved it. Some parts were brilliantly spectacular, but a few small qualms. I am going to collect my thoughts on it here:

- whoa, so we're jumping right into this film! Oh, ok then.
+ shell cottage was lovely. griphook and ollivander were nicely done
- uhhh, could we see lupin one more time before his death, so we can actually hear about this baby?
+ hermoine-as-bellatrix was spot on. and finally, we're using the invisibility cloak when it needs to be used.
+ gringotts was so expanse and well imagined, that entire sequence was breathtaking.
- would have loved hermoine hanging harry by his leg in the air, though
+ and I guess the whole "i can feel/hear horcruxes" is an okay explanation, since they ignored all the book canon regarding horcruxes. It's logical, one horcrux can sense another's presence, etc.
+dragon flight was gorgeous
-but the scene after that moved a little too quickly. let's go through honeydukes? cool plan bro
-really wanted dementors/patronus in hogsmeade, and aberforth yelling at guards
+but aberforth was a great character, that scene was quite nice
-but I didn't like the whole "I don't care about what happened b/w you and your brother." That's more like "we left all this backstory out of the movies so let's pretend it doesn't matter."
+really, really liked when the trio came into the room of requirement. loved seeing all the old faces, and the humor.
+chamber of secrets, the kiss! Thought it was a nice addition. I liked the attention paid to destroying horcruxes in general in this film. The last few being destroyed seemed very "convenient" in the book.
- harry confronting snape like that was sort of silly. something about that whole scene didn't sit right with me
+but mcgonagall dueling with him, ugh yes
+ LOVED everyone starting to defend hogwarts, the statues coming to life, the whole tension building, etc
+ grey lady was pretty good. I guess I don't mind that she just "happened" to know it was in the RoR. I guess harry needed to know somehow?
+ in general, enjoyed the RoR scene. hell yeah harry saving draco, and ron's line.
+I like that harry stabbed the diadem instead of "oh, so I guess fiendfyre just happens to kill horcruxes too! Cool!"
+ I absolutely love the little sequence where the trio fight their way outside, and the music swelling, and the sense of danger and war, just ugh. and neville on the bridge and the barrier coming down, just all nicely done.
+LOVE the boathouse scene. Good location, good tension, good acting. I'm glad that translated well. but oh god, snape's death, jesus man.
- tears though, really? I would've rather it seeped out. and "you have your mother's eyes" was too much. yeah I guess movie ppl would be like "huh?" if it was just "look at me," but still. We'll get to it, sheesh.
+ I guess I have to give the prince's tale a plus even though I found it MAJORLY flawed. The important things were there. I just hate this whole "slant" thing to the picture when it's a memory. I guess I just wanted to see everything - them in hogwarts, on the train, how being a mudblood doesn't matter, etc. But I definitely got the sentiment and the depth of snape's love, and I think it was enough to satisfy movie fans.
+ oh god oh god harry's face when he comes out of the pensieve. ughhhh and feeling his heartbeats. dan radcliffe, that was just splendid
+ I guess I liked that he got to say "goodbye" to hermoine and ron, but I really, really wanted him to tell neville about the snake.
- "I am about to die" would have been so much better than "I am ready to die." It's more than being ready, it's knowing the certainty, the finality, that needs to open the snitch.
+ but the resurrection stone scene was perf, so glad they showed him dropping it, too.
- uhhh, didn't explain how hagrid got captured? could have quickly shown spiders carrying him to the forest.
+but the forest scene was generally quite nice
+not sure how I feel about king's cross. beautiful looking, (uhhh, dan looked really hot?), I got the intended "feeling" of the scene,
- but I wanted to hear SO MUCH MORE. At least mention the deathly hallows? how he's the rightful owner? I mean, it's only the title of the movie, and it's never referred back to again.
- and let's explain that harry only survives because voldemort survives, alive with his own blood, protected by his mother's sacrifice. otherwise it's just "yeah you can go back if you want, sure." ugh.
- thought the narcissa scene could've gone a little better, or at least a little more acknowledgment from harry, and what it means for her.
+neville coming forward! speech was a little silly, but I loved seeing harry playing dead like that, and the taunting by voldemort and hey, at least the sorting hat was there, although conveniently placed, but I guess dumbledore foreshadowed it with that long ass speech in king's cross (unnecessary when ddore could've been saying more important things amirite?)
+kind of liked harry just jumping out like that, heh. thought the paralleling scenes of harry/voldemort fighting while trying to kill nagini were well done, but I swear to god if harry had stabbed that snake
+no man I was legit concerned neville wasn't going to do it, but when he did it was like, fuck yeah. our theatre went nuts.
+NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH. Great. Perfect. Love it. that was a badass duel.
+oh, this is out of place, but neville loving luna? Yeah, it makes us happy cause that's what we want, but it's not book canon, arg! i dunno, I do love that idea but ugh, you can't just do that to me
- ew that horrible cliff fall and that weird flying sequence. what was harry thinking in throwing them off a cliff, what was the intention and purpose there?
- wanted everyone to watch them duel. didn't like it being alone.
-TELL VOLDEMORT ABOUT THE ELDER WAND. ASK HIM FOR REMORSE. SAY THE SPELLS. come on.
+ catching the wand! yes!
- that weird ash shit though, what? no thanks.
+ I guess I can live with harry not talking to ddore's portrait afterwards though, but again, I wanted the deathly hallows shit wrapped up. the walk with hermoine and ron was nice, the whole "i guess it's mine" was cute. I mean, at least draco being the owner got explained, thank god.
-fix your broken wand! come on boy!
+ I guess the epilogue was okay, given the material to work with. hahahaha at draco, though. the rest of them looked okay, sort of silly and not really that well aged, but meh
+really glad the little talk was left in. "he was the bravest man I ever knew" is probably one of my favorite lines of hp, and I'm happy we hear it.
-touch your scar in the end! maybe? eh idk. maybe it's my own sentiments but when it cut I was left sort of....eh.

but dear god, all in all, I truly love this film.

fangirl, movies, harry potter
