Recently updated to apply to college Troy rather than canon HSM3 Troy.
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? Troy's fairly average height for a male teen, at around 5'9". Being a basketball nut has served him well enough in fitness, and by senior year, his build has developed into an athletes appearance of slim yet muscular.
2. How old is he? Senior year canon puts him at eighteen. His current college 'verse puts him at nineteen and just about to start his second year.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? There's plenty of confidence behind his motives, but he often slouches for comfort.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Troy's pretty much the poster boy for good health when it comes to physical appearances. He works out when he wakes up, and spends plenty of time exercising through means of basketball, biking, skateboarding, running, and so on. He still has plenty of unhealthy habits including cake and junk food, but the good tend to outweigh the bad.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? As with his posture, it's often about the confidence. When he's comfortable with his surroundings, he moves like he owns the place with just a hint of a swagger, even when he's got his hands in his pockets or feet scuffing. He's light on his feet and maybe just a tad more graceful than he'd admit to.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? As far as attractiveness goes, Troy's up there with the best of them. Sure, beauty is all a matter of opinion, but he's got a teen heartthrob look about him. It's the Gary Stu in him to be Mr Perfect. Though when looking at himself, he doesn't tend to think of himself as omgsupahhottie, even if he can occasionally get a little vain with his appearance. But boys will be boys, and so long as he's in with the trends and people like him, he doesn't really care about his reflection.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? White, but usually lightly tanned thanks to the New Mexico and Californian sun, with very little in the way of scars or marks.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. Dark brown, often with highlights, verging on an emo sweep, usually flicked out and siiiilkysmooth.
9. What color are his eyes? Blue. Almost painfully blue, when photoshoppers have a field day.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Apart from the blue eyes, heavy eyebrows and Zefron hair sweep, not massively.
11. What are his chief tension centers? Shoulders, probably.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? Most of Troy's clothing selection is casual, plenty of low slung jeans, t-shirts, shirts to be worn open like jackets, and hoodies. And usually always the same pair of classic black converse hi-tops. He has a limited amount of smart wear, mostly stuff for dates and/or things his mom has forced him to acquire. Plus there's obviously the range of sports gear too, including his basketball kit for the Berkeley Bears.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? His clothing is entirely made for comfort with the active life he leads, and Troy loves what he wears. Plus they fit how he wants them to fit.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? The only job he's had involved a uniform, so mostly no. But even then he liked to add his own twist into it where he could for that little bit of individuality.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Boxers, almost always, and most people get to view them, considering how low his jeans ride. They're usually geeky ones too, especially his favored Hulk ones. When doing a game, it tends to be boxer briefs.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? He's got a fairly average pitch, which can vary depending on mood, and can reach impressively high when needed for singing, which he tends to do a lot of.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? Confidence, confidence, confidence. Very rarely is there hesitation behind what he says, but that can also mean he speaks before he thinks. He can be fairly loud, but tends to make himself clear.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? His accent is mostly generic American, with slang thrown in there. Troy has a habit of slinging in plenty of 'dude', 'man', 'like' and other current teenage slang.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? English, and he also knows a bit of Spanish, but that's about it.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? When around adults or in less casual situations, he drops the slang and keeps his tone and manner of speech far more polite and respectable.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? Troy very rarely thinks about what he's saying, and speaks from the heart at all times.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? Though he's not exactly eloquent, Troy borders far above inarticulate. He plays the dumb jock role well enough, but even if his speech is full of slang, he still knows what he's talking about.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? Definitely more street-smart. He's not big on studying or extreme cases of thought provoking moments, but that's because he's far more physical with his actions. Troy is an athlete, an actor, a singer, and a dancer. All of which involve syncing his body and mind, rather than relying solely upon his knowledge and intelligence.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? He almost only ever thinks on his feet, and has a habit of acting before ever actually thinking things through. The few times that he does take time to deliberate a situation are only ever on big decisions that need to be considered over time.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? Troy's a very honest sort of character, and his actions and thoughts go with this. He says what he thinks (unless offensive or hurtful) and rarely goes back on his original decisions. Logic comes from following his heart and gut instinct, rather than thinking up possibilities and pros and cons, and he's far more of a dreamer until the heavy hand of reality comes to slap him in the face.
4. What kind of education has the character had? As well as doing fine in High School, Troy's now nearing his second year of college, studying theater and basketball and enjoying what he's doing. Even if he does just want to get out into the world now.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? Troy knows lots and lots about basketball and most other sports. He'd like to learn more about the workings of the stage, even if he doesn't like admitting such, and has been doing plenty of researching on musicals.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? Extrovert, through and through, with the very, very occasional smattering of introvert, depending on the situation. He can become an awkward turtle in many situations though.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? Generally Troy's a very even-tempered sort of kid, he takes each day as it comes and each situation without previous judgment. He's incredibly laid back and open to everything he approaches and generally remains unaffected by most things. That being said, he does have a tendency to get upset over certain happenings, usually involving troubles with friends, girlfriends or family, mostly because he leads by his heart. He also has a strong belief for standing up for what he believes is right, which at times causes him to get overly defensive, and even fight verbally and sometimes physically just to defend his or someone elses honor, which can make him come across as a stubborn little bastard.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? When it comes to meeting new people, he's always very open, cheerful, and eager to make them feel relaxed in the situation. He'll even go out of his way at times to mock himself for the sake of making others feel more comfortable and less embarrassed. This does all depend on the situation of who and where he meets someone, and only remains stand-offish if he's meeting someone he may feel threatened by.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? Act, definitely. He's throws himself into situations head first, without any consideration.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight? Fight 90% of the time. He likes to uphold his masculine image when possible.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? Troy is all about the pranks. He's playful and almost always messing around when in the company of friends and family. Even when not outright making a joke, most of his actions or movements tend to be done to draw a smile from someone. He's open to jokes being pulled on him too, even if he'd rather the situation were usually reversed.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? Does breaking out into dance and song solos when upset count? That's a pretty big mental disorder. But after the song is over, he's totes fine again, and usually has an answer to solving all his problems, somehow.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? Most involve times when he's made decisions for himself, and stood up for his beliefs. One of his biggest moments would probably be openly admitting that yes, he does like to sing and dance, and no that doesn't make him gay hate basketball any less. Since then he's been allowed to express himself far more openly without fear of having to hide his bitchin' dance moves.
14. What does he fear? Losing those close to him. He becomes very easily attached to those around him, and struggles to part from them.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations? Troy's still confused about his future, and uncertain on which way he should be going. He enjoys basketball and yet seems equally intent on following his path for the stage. Whatever he decides, he wants to be achieving it all alongside his friends, family and giiiirlfriend.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? His main secret was told fairly recent in his life, about his affinity for the stage, having been afraid before to ever bother admitting he enjoyed singing and dancing before that day. Still, the whole school (and much of the world) seems to know about that now. When it comes to major things to hide, Troy doesn't exactly seem to have them.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. His interaction with his parents tends to be positive as he seems to get on with them both fairly well. Troy tends to approach his mother for the generic chats and motherly duties, while his father is mostly there to push him to be better at life. He and his dad tend to get on fairly well in regards to playing basketball together and discussing the future, but sometimes Troy feels a little too pressurized by his father and as such gets frustrated with him, which can lead to the occasional butting of heads.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? Troy's an only child, but calls his closest friend, Chad, his brother.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? Most of the Bolton family tend to all get along well enough, but there's always the vaguely annoying cousins to deal with..
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? Chad has been Troy's closest friend since they were tiny, and as such regards him as somewhat of a brother. They fight and play just as much as real brothers too. He's also grown a close attachment to his new drama teacher in college, who he tends to view as a parental figure when in California and away from his own parents. And of course, there's his girlfriend, Jerri, who he counts as part of his family no matter what.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Troy has always been closest to Chad, his friend since sometime around kindergarten. The two talked about everything and anything together and were almost always inseparable, though with the arrival of college, the two don't see each other as much as they'd like.
6. Does he have other close friends? Most of the basketball team and the drama kids are people he considers his friends, even if he does consider most of the jocks totaly douchebags, and most the drama kids a little on the camp side. Outside of that, he's got people he met on the way, including Den, his doppelganger, Wanda, his girlfriend's doppelganger, Duffy, Gary (lolol) and ooothers. And obviously his girlfriend, Jerri.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? Troy makes friends very, very easily. He likes everyone until he is given a reason not to. With his confident and open personality, he often charms people into befriending him, and due to that, has become one of the most popular and liked kids in school and college.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? That would be a tough one for him to choose, but family might eventually win out. It would without a doubt be family, if he could include his girlyfriend.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? He's in a new relationship, though with his amazing clingy need for loooove, he's hoping for marriage and more in the future.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? Jerri, and Jerri only, kthx.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? There's too many first crushes for him to even consider, all being off movies and TV shows he's grown up, but what he considers his first proper crush had to be Gabriella. His latest is- you guessed it- Jerri.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? Troy wants someone to share his life with. Someone who will put up with his messing around and jokes, humor him when called upon, give affection and attention to him, and will be honest and open in the relationship, even if it's not always honesty about the good stuff.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any? He's a little too young to seriously be considering kids just yet, but he wouldn't be opposed to the idea of one or a few mini Boltons running around in the future.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies? There aren't any people he really considers an enemy, though he does have a habit of bickering with his friends. But Troy doesn't tend to hold grudges, so it's very rare he has rivals.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale? While Troy considers himself to be firmly in the straight category, the mun isn't quite so sure. He's just too campy sometimes, srry. Plus he's slept with guys. But he still considers himself straight, somehow
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? Troy can be quite old fashioned (and Disney) in his opinions on sex. He's against one night stands and sex for the sake of it, but considers the act to be quite an important development in a steady relationship. He's typically the type to save himself for the 'right' person, and even if he can pull pretty much any girl in college, he still wouldn't ever entirely put out. Except with his girlfriend, of course.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? He's a teenager. Pretty much anything is fair game right now, especially when there's so much to try. He likes communication though, with plenty of physical touch, affection behind actions, and just maybe it all a little on the rough side, just to keep his masculine ego content.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type? Troy is an
Aries, the ram. As far as the Aries traits go, it suits him perfectly. From the need to be leader, all the way through to liking and relying on practical jokes and humor, being open, confident, stubborn, interested in himself the majority of the time, egotistical, acting first - thinking later, being occasionally reckless and short-sighted, very strong will power, and incredibly reliant upon affection and sympathy.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? There's the general Christian background when it comes to religion and while his family do sometimes attend church and such, Troy isn't highly religious. He's very much under the belief of equality and acceptance and thinks everyone should believe in what they want so long as it doesn't harm anyone else.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? Thanks to Disney and his parents, his morals and ethics are highly accepting, shiny and sparkly. He thinks people should be themselves without worry of what others will say or think. On the other hand, he kind of hopes people won't say or think anything negative in the first place. In his ideal world, he'd like acceptance for everyone, and a freedom to believe in your own things so long as they don't cause damage or harm to other people or things. He'd rather things were solved rationally and peaceful, but at the same time, when it comes to it, he will swing fists if it means protecting friends and family and teh innocentz. It would be fairly hard to break his moral code in any way if only because the teen is incredibly stubborn and stands by what he thinks no matter what, and if told to change, he'll dig his heels in even more.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? Other beliefs and ways of life tend to grab Troy's curiosity. He's entirely tolerant of them, but tends to want to know more about them, and won't shy back on the questioning and such.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them? His prejudice lies with ignorant people and that's about it. He's fine with people not understanding something, as he's not exactly the brightest spark himself, but he dislikes it when people are unwilling to listen or learn further on something without trying.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? In high school, Troy only has a job for his last summer, which actually ends up being fairly well paid for a kid his age. But generally his family are comfortable, and help each other out with finances when they can. Troy's parents buy him a truck that he can't really afford one, and Troy gave his parents some of his work wages when he could. It works both ways. In college, he's done a few little paid jobs, and got a small theater job during the summer in a production of Hairspray.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? Ever since he was little, he's kind of been the popular kid. His love and skill for sports easily put him up in the jock category and has since been one of the most well known names in high school, especially thanks to his role as Captain of the school's winning basketball team. Troy doesn't use his status to bully or get what he wants though, and just tends to enjoy the attention, if nothing else. When he revealed to the school that he actually enjoys singing and dancing, and has a crush on a geek, the whole school status changed, and there was a total break down in cliques, leading to a more accepting place of learning. Joy. Sadly college hasn't got such a breakdown of cliques, but Troy's still doing fairly well with his popularity.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? By college, Troy's just got himself an apartment off campus with another jock friend, who is a total douche. Troy likes to keep things clean and tidy, his douche housemate likes to keep everything as messy as possible. Someday, he wants a place of his own. Or with a certain someone.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? Troy tends to save his money, but the money he does spend goes towards music, dvds, videogames, basketball related stuff, some clothing, and most importantly- his newest truck, which still needs constant attention and parts.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? College student and loving it. But when it comes to jobs, he'll do everything he approaches with a level head and tends to do pretty well for himself.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? Anything sports or physical activity related, including basketball, golf, baseball, skateboarding, swimming, running, biking, snowboarding, dancing and so on. Also when he gets the chance, he likes playing videogames, watching movies, listening to music, spending time with his girlfriend, hanging out with his friends and fixing up his pick-up truck.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? Being a typical teen, he does binge out on junk food every now and then, but over all he tries to lead a healthy lifestyle to keep him in shape for all his sporty needs. He tends to stock up on plenty of quick and easy health foods like salads, fruits, cold vegetables like carrots and such, and anything that he can grab and keep moving. He will, however, eat pretty much anything and everything, and is by no means a fussy eater. He'll also eat a lot of it, because he soon burns it all off again.
