You may not have noticed but I've been a little absent lately. I've started on several occasions typing up a little blurb on facebook about it but realized that what's been going on is not particularly important to the general population. I've spoken to a couple of people about it, but for the most part I've been pretty quiet because it's going ( Read more... )

Oh it's definitely just as much of a learning experience with Daisy for me. It seems like an awful lot of trial and error and me being too stubborn to quit telling her to hang up her coat and do her homework. I know, I'm a real bitch that way.

It's not the coat or the homework per se with Daisy, those are just symptoms of the bigger issues regarding organization, distraction, and avoidance of responsibility. It may sound like I'm nitpicking by having her hang up her coat and do the homework every day, I'm not. The homework that she's currently trying to avoid is essential math, the stuff that if she doesn't get it now, she won't be able to catch up from.

Daisy has a tendency to get distracted very, very easily and because of that, we're learning with her it's gotta be all about routine and being vigilant about checking *everything* including the backpack, folder, bed, agenda, and email. Hanging the coat up is part of that routine. As her habits get better, she'll earn privileges but the habits will need to stay in place.

None of it seems trivial to me, so I must be one of the three! Seriously, you rock. I love your never-give-up attitude. You choose good strategies to tackle the challenges and you will succeed. I love reading your posts, thanks for sharing.

Not trivial at all, my friend. In fact, I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't seen you recently and was wondering how D's canter was going. Every time I drive by your barn I crane my neck, just in case I might catch a glimpse of your pretty boy. Good for you for sticking with it. You'll get it eventually and someday you'll think back and wonder just what it was that was getting in the way of getting that perfect depart ( ... )

It IS a pain! But I think that you're right, consistency is the key.

I like to think that I'm a good mom. I know I'm a little bit on the strict side, but I try very hard to find a balance so I'm not just talking to the kids about homework and crap.

I know you're a good mom too. If only every kid could have awesome moms like us to hate for making them work when they're kids, blame when they decide to try therapy in their 20's, but maybe appreciate when they're in their 40's! :-P

So, Dusty is what you've been doing most evenings? I admire your perseverence and dedication with him. :)

I'm sorry to hear that work is stressing you out, but very glad to hear that your hands are feeling better. :)

Riding Dusty and tutoring Daisy. Combined, they've been kicking my ass. Daisy probably more than Dusty. ;-)
