He felt something nuzzle his ear. He snapped awake with the instant alertness that had saved his life more than once.
"River!" he said with surprise.
She knelt on the side of his bed in the Tardis, smirking at him almost too close to see. "Who did you think it was?" she asked, brow arched.
"I thought it was a cyber saberkitten."
She nipped his ear with her sharp teeth. "AH!" He jerked upright, scrubbing furiously at his ear.
She sat back, smirking. "I didn't expect to find you asleep when I arrived. I thought the Tardis was deserted at first."
"I do sleep, you know," he said.
She leaned forward, her voice heavy with innuendo. "I know."
He tapped her playfully on the nose. "Naughty."
She grinned at him.
"What are you doing here?" he asked. Not that he didn't love her being here. Sitting all curvy and curly on the side of his bed. That was enough to snap any man delightfully awake.
She shrugged lazily. "I thought I'd come play with my best boy." She gave him one of those lazy lashed looks that started his hearts pounding.
He chewed on his bottom lip and plucked at his covers. "Is this going to involve eventual sleepiness?" he asked.
She leaned forward and touched her nose to his. "If you're lucky."
