“They’re alive!”
He grabbed up his companion around the hips and twirled her in a circle. He set her down, grabbed her head and gave her a huge smacking kiss.
She pushed back. “Whoa! What was that for?” she said, giving him a confused, irritated look.
“They’re alive!”
“Yeah, but they want to kill you,” she pointed out.
“I don’t even care.” He grabbed her hands and waltzed her around the console, glee radiating off of him like a palpable force. She grinned, she couldn’t not, and joined in the dance.
He finally stopped and gave her a whirl. They both bowed elegantly and laughed breathlessly.
“I’m not alone any more,” he said, with a quieter, but no less intense joy.
“Hey! What am I, chopped liver?”
“You know what I mean.” He grinned that stupid grin at her, stuffed his hands in his pockets and twisted on his heels, too happy to stay still.
She grinned back but shook her head at him.
“They’re going to hound you all across time and space, you know,” she pointed out seriously.
“Yeah,” he said it with a satisfied smile and a beaming grin. “It’s nice to have someone to run from again.”
