Christine had an early shift at the hospital the next morning, so she'd been sleeping most of the evening and was now ready to get up and start her day. However, that still required a jump start in the form of coffee, so she headed down to the kitchen, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

She stopped short when she saw who was at the coffee maker. It was Mr. Scott, but not the one she'd left behind on the Enterprise. Being cautious would have been a good idea, but for some reason she was drawn forward instead of hanging back.

"Hey."

"I could... no, no!" She shook her head vehemently and stepped back again, placing her hands over his to try and pry him away. "This isn't-- I-I'm not normally like this. I can't--" Despite her protests, her thumbs had started sweeping gently against the skin of his hands.

"And I just started," she added, sounding like she was trying to convince herself as much as him that she had to go. "I can't call off when I just started. It's irresponsible."

"One day isn't goin' t'hurt anything," he told her, leaning in to press a quick kiss to her lips. "Just one day. They won't even notice."

Her protests were momentarily cut off by his lips and she was left feeling a little stunned. What was she meant to be doing? Protesting? Did she have to?

"I... they would," she answered weakly. "We're understaffed. I'm needed."

But then she did the exact opposite of pulling away from him, which was to lean into him and kiss him back.

He just stood there, his arms still her, kissing her. At an hour too early to be morning and too late to still be night, in the middle of the kitchen. This wasn't him, he didn't do this sort of thing, he should--

"So go in a little late, then," he murmured against her lips.

She couldn't fault his logic, and he was so warm and cozy that she found herself nodding.

"I could do that. Sure." Her lips brushed back against his as she spoke. Work started at a ridiculous hour anyway.

"Back t'my room, then?" He'd have to grab Laphroaig's breakfast if they did that. But that wouldn't take any more than a minute.

She knew better than to just skip off with a member of the Empire, she really did. But at the moment, there were stronger forces at work and Christine nodded.

"I'd love to."

He drew back, but kept an arm around Christine, the coffee forgotten. "Let me just get Laphroaig his breakfast then, aye?"

"'Kay," she replied, smiling at him with eyes that could be said to be sparkling. Her eyes didn't do that for just anyone, and she should have been horrified that she was doing it now. But instead, she just kept an arm around his waist and wondered what he was getting his dragon for breakfast.

Getting Laphroaig breakfast merely involved a short stop at the fridge to pull out a wrapped package of raw beef. Not exactly conducive to a cuddly sort of atmosphere, but Scott seemed to neither notice nor mind, as he kept his arm around Christine's shoulders, leading her back in the direction of his room.

To Christine, it made sense that a dragon would eat raw meat, and she didn't bat an eye as he picked up the package. She was looking forward to getting to snuggle up with him and anything else concerning dragons weren't really that important to her at the moment.

"All ready?"

"All ready." It wasn't too terribly far from the kitchen back to his room, and Laphroaig, still half-asleep, only glanced up from his nest of blankets in the corner when they arrived. Reluctantly, and only because he had to feed Laphroaig, Scott let go of Christine - but only long enough to make sure Laphroaig knew there was food to be had when he woke up.

Christine hung back when she saw the dragon, putting Scott in between it and her. This one was definitely tiny, but that didn't mean she was going to trust it. Her fingers brushed across Scott's back and she leaned in to whisper in his ear, "I'm scared of dragons."

"He gets a bit nippy now an' then," Scott admitted. "But there's no' really anything t'be afraid of." And, indeed, Laphroaig was completely ignoring Christine, more concerned with his breakfast than anything else. "See?" Scott asked, turning back to Christine. "Nothin' t'be afraid of."

"If you say so," she answered, still looking warily at the dragon eating his breakfast. Looking up at Scott, she smiled softly and took his hand in hers.

"Weren't we gonna lay down together?"
