Spike wasn't sure why he kept showing up in bars, when he could just steal a fifth. But he guessed it was the ambiance. People around, noise, that sort of thing. Couldn't eat them, but he liked the smell. Like a caffeine addict hanging about at Starbucks.
He ordered a shot of whiskey at the bar, and informed the barkeep to keep 'em coming. The bloke next to him had the nervous scent of a newcomer, and Spike kept an eye on him as he drank, just out of curiosity.
"Got no choice. Funny enough, I actually know people here, so i 'spose I won't be too far from home. Funny how that sort of thing makes you feel connected. Even if you don't know the people that well." Rhys thumbed the lip of his beer bottle and stared, a bit listlessly at that, across the room. "You make it sound as though this place's got sights worth seeing, mate."
"Oh..." Rhys wasn't surprised he hadn't picked up on that. After all, for all the times he'd been angry with Jack for being so... shmoozy around Gwen, he'd be stupid to think she wouldn't be just as angry if it was the other way around. "Guess I never thought about it like that. She isn't here after all..."
Spike shook his head. Bloke was thick, wasn't he? Spike wasn't big on cheating, but that was personal. Him and Dru... But for a man to not even consider the possibilities was ludicrous.
"Need to think outside the box," he said expansively. "Sounds like she's got you on a string."
"Oi," he sounded a bit miffed, but his face was more confused than anything. "S'not like that, yeah? We just... have an understanding. I may like to look at other girls, sure, but I'm not that kind of guy."
He couldn't help but think about it for a minute. Gwen really wasn't here. He didn't even know if here constituted a place at all, so by that logic, could he really get in trouble? Still it was far too difficult to just say 'no' and go for it.
"Never was much for window shopping, though," Rhys said and slumped in his seat a bit. He downed his drink and placed it carefully on the bar, his contemplation making his movements more delicate.

"Guess you're right, at that. Gonna take a little break, then? See the sights without the missus?"

"Was a euphemism. By 'sights' I meant 'other women.' Of which there are plenty."

He couldn't believe he was even thinking it.
