He wouldn't admit it, but some nights Spike went to Hell House motivated by more than the doling out of his fee. There were so many people to annoy there, and given his fangless state it was one of the genuine pleasures left to him. Even better when he ran into Wesley, who looked, at least, to be on his feet.

"Mornin', watcher," he greeted with false cheer.

"Evening." Wes replied, pausing with mug of tea in hand. He'd been just heading back to the library after a quick break, but now that Spike was here...

"Been keeping out of trouble, I trust?"

Yes, there was a sarcastic edge to it, but he was actually quite pleased to see him underneath it all.

"My squeaker? Oh, my voice. Yes. No more writing everything on a piece of paper. So, if you call me a wanker or a nancy boy, I'll be calling you one right back."

He looked down and away for a moment.

"Did you hear about the beach party? Cordelia was there and didn't see him at all, but there's no reason for Angelus to lie about attending. Perhaps it was for the best that she missed him."

"Yeah, heard." Spike frowned, shoving his hands in his pockets. "I was a bit, ah..." He circled his hand vaguely around his hand. "Stoned. Didn't see 'im either."

"It seems that our streak of not-so-wonderful luck is continuing." Wes sighed and shook his head. "If only there were some way to block his broadcasts on the network. He always loves an audience. The melodrama of it."

Spike shook his head. "Never could get the sense of it," he said. "First person to admit 'm not subtle, but it's his bloody ego you've got to look out for." He looked around. "Buffy said anything? Heard from him, I mean."

If she has, she hasn't informed me of it. Although I believe he did leave her and Cordelia some sketches at the Victoria. This has prompted them to seek alternative lodgings.

Spike threw him a look, as if about to protest what, we in league now or somethin'?, but he realized they were and questioning it would only make it explicit.

"Yeah," he said instead, figuring that covered it. "An' likewise."
