Ba'al was in his office when the explosion hit. In his experience, he is the one who causes the explosions, he's not exactly used to his stuff blowing up (Unless we count those times with Qetesh, which we don't.). It took him a painful second to realize what happened, another second to assure himself that this wasn't an areal bombardment by some rival Goa'uld that somehow found themselves in the city with a ship. Of course, those thoughts really mean nothing when buried in the rubble of your own building.

By the fact he was a Goa'uld, what would normally kill a human doesn't kill him but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt like hell. First order of business was to block the pain from his host. He would decide when his host was allowed to feel pain. Next, he had to find the healing device he kept in his desk. To do this, he drew on his very seldom used gravity power he gained from the city so long ago. With it, he carefully shifted the rubble around. After some work, he got to his healing device. Most important thing was healing himself ( ... )

Jim hadn't been close to the locus of the explosion, thankfully. Just enjoying a drink, wondering what he was doing there, wondering where he should be instead. Thinking about Inara... and dismissing the thought.

The blast had rocked him into action, however, and he's been attempting rescues and getting the injured to safety ever since. By the time Ba'al approaches, Jim is covered in grime and dust, a thin layer coating the blood leaking from the gash in his forehead and a deeper one on his arm.

Ba'al sort of emits this cold driven rage. Silence coming from Ba'al is also a very bad sign. The most he did say amounted to barking orders. He didn't look that great even if he had healed himself. He'd been healing people since he got free. It took a toll.

Now when he got to Jim he just said one word, "Arm." Then held out the device he held in his palm. He didn't look like he wanted to argue about it either.

Jim stared at him for a moment. He's running on adrenaline and need, and for a moment he can't figure out what the request--no, demand--means. But he knew what the device was, had felt its varied effects, and despite its previous context he held his arm out, expression neutral.

"You look like shit," he said.

"As do you," Ba'al said in a deadpan. He went a head and healed the gash on his arm though it obviously took a toll on him for just that simple injury.

"You didn't have to do that," Jim said quietly. "It would have healed on its own."

Did Ba'al just like demonstrating his power over Jim? Was he attempting to assert it?

In some strange way it a had a little bit to do with power but not power over Jim.

"You were injured on the premises, it is my responsibility," he said plainly, like it made perfect sense.

Jim watched him a moment, and then nodded. That was... interesting. Territorial. And not in an unpleasant way.

"Thank you," he said. "What can I do?"

"Continue as you have. Send the injured to myself, I will do what I can," he said. His voice was a very middle tone here and sounded far more like a request than demand. He was just a little too tired to keep up with his usual demeanor.

He started to move of then, toward where he heard more signs of life.

Jim nodded, not calling Ba'al out, but filing this away for future thought.

He really did not want to start thinking of Ba'al as anything but the man who had tortured him for no good reason--not that there was a good reason, ever. Or the man to whom he'd been driven by desperation. Ba'al confused him, and he was used to understanding.

But for now, he did what he was going to do anyway, and went to search the wreckage for survivors.
