Lieutenant Uhura to Bridge. I--

[Scuffling, followed by the sound of several empty wooden crates falling from a considerable height and breaking on a concrete floor, and then a surprised/frightened gasp.]

Shit!

Lieutenant? This is... Captain Kirk.

[Her voice sounds different. At this point, however, Jim's used to the people he knows not being the people he knows.]

Are you all right? can you be more specific about your location?

Captain?

[You're not quite the voice she remembers, either, but any port in a storm. She's going to go with it for now and examine it later, when she's not potentially in danger.]

I'm safe for the moment. I don't know where I am, but Commander Spock is on his way. He does.

[At least, she really hopes he does.]

Good. He'll find you, I'm sure. But keep in contact, if something happens.

Has anyone told you where you are, yet? You're not on the Enterprise--you're not even in the universe you were, as far as anyone can tell. You're in Bete Noire. It seems to touch every universe.

[Her voice is a little more hesitant now, obviously she hasn't gotten used to the idea yet.]

Yes. At least, that's what we're meant to think, though I haven't given up hope. And you're among friends, Lieutenant. We'll figure something out.

[All right, so maybe you're not her Captain Kirk, and you speak a little strangely, but she's down with the whole alternate version of reality thing, and she's willing to believe that her Jim's unwillingness to give up on anything ever is a constant in all versions of him. As such, what you're saying makes her feel a little better.]

Thank you, Captain. I'm sure we will.

[Who talks strangely?]

Mr. Spock knows where I live. We'll be in touch.

[He's fully confident in Spock's ability to find her--and that the Vulcan will let him know what he needs to.]
