[locked to Admiral Jim Kirk]
I have news. Good news.

[locked to Spock]
I've found a job. Speaking dozens of languages might not be a boon here, but apparently speaking them eloquently still is.

[locked to Enterprise crew from any universe, cause at least there's familiarity there]
I feel like celebrating. Anyone interested in dinner and drinks?

At the Magistrate's Tower.

Understood.

[There's a part of him that wants to tell her to be careful. After just what happened to the last Magistrate, the tower isn't the safest place to work. But instead...]

You are more than qualified to meet their needs.

Kirk recommended that I look for work in the Government. I've never taken on something of this scale before.

[Read: she hopes she doesn't let you both down.

She's studied for situations similar to this, but having the knowledge and having the experience are two different things.]

I'm the Press Secretary for the Magistrate. I wasn't expecting something so public, but it should allow us an unvarnished inside look at the city that might prove useful.

The salary is also considerable. Mister Scott seems worried about being able to find the things he requires for you two to get your work done. I know I can't help from a technical standpoint, but now I can help fund the people who are qualified.

[He isn't going to repeat himself, so he just leaves that as is. She's qualified for the job, despite her own apprehension, and that's all there is to it. If he thought any differently, he'd tell her as much.

The mention of funding doesn't concern him anywhere near as much as it once had. After having both Jim and Pasha sneaking money into an account for him and T'Pol's own offers, he isn't about to start refusing again.]

Mister Scott has the details of the account, should they be required. As does Jim.

[And a few others. But those are the two most relevant to the both of them.]

[The fact that he isn't offering any objection after hearing exactly what the job is gives her a boost in confidence. Her concerns are mostly emotional, but his would have been based purely in logic, which means if there was anything to be concerned about, he would have said so. He's also been in the city longer. He understands it far better than she does. Knowing that she can make a monetary contribution is also improving her mood. She has a function again. Her happiness is bleeding into her voice.]

All right. I'll speak with one of them today. [Actually, as soon as Jim guesses or she grows tired of playing the game, she can ask him about it and make a deposit before the bank closes.]

[While he may not see a problem with her being capable of filling the role, there's still a few concerns he does have. But they're ones that are easily pushed away by the simple fact it was Jim's suggestion in the first place. He trusts the two of them not to do something dangerous.

Of course, that doesn't mean he wont air his largest issue with it. And carefully bypass having to give any form of emotional response to her happiness too. As you do.]

Have you been made aware of what happened to the last Magistrate?

[If the information is anywhere in Spock's cache of knowledge about the city, Uhura hasn't reached that section yet.]

No. Was the takeover hostile? [She can't imagine Percy wrestling Government control away from someone. She assumes that would be morally beneath him.] Is he or she still upset over the loss of power?

[:| Well, he's not going to sugar-coat it, so...]

The previous Magistrate was murdered. Supposedly, her soul was taken from her and was unable to be recovered in time.

[Pause like a pausing thing that pauses. Way to ruin her accomplishment buzz, man. Still, if it's enough of a concern for him to actually voice it, then...]

Do you think I'm taking an unnecessary risk, putting myself in a position so closely tied to the new Magistrate?

[Read: Are you worried about my safety? Should I be worried about it?]

inferable April 12 2011, 18:33:53 UTC
There is no position within the city that comes free from risk.

[Stuck in the Tower or just walking down the street. He's concerned about her, but it's the same level as he'd been before.]

You're probably right about that.

[She's not sure if he's looking for something specific, and she knows he won't just come out and say it if he is, especially if it's something emotional. Especially right now.]

I'll be careful. I promise. I'm not willing to die for this place.
