Reputation is everything, no matter what city or country you happen to be in. Your father understood that public perception is as good as currency in how it will aid you in whatever you want or need in the future.

Currently you have a collection of wizards in this city who will work against the Malfoy name with every ounce of free time they have to spare, and when the time comes where you will need something from others, it will help to have a bit of leverage to use.
