And that with undeniable proof, she has to accept the existence of werewolves and vampires and the rest. Proof is all she's ever looked for, but she's been so long confronted with ( Read more... )

[he remembers her, but vaguely; he doesn't really care if she remembers him or not - he just wants to answer her question.]

We don't have everything that you'll see here, but we certainly have a lot of it.

I'm fine. Thank you. [She's not but she's mostly really embarrassed.]

How does the human population deal with it?

Of course. [he won't push it.]

If by human, you mean the non-magical lot, then they don't know. Muggles aren't privy to any of the magical goings-on unless they have a witch or wizard for a relative.

Oh. I see. [Or something] How do you keep it secret? It seems like a fairly large thing to be unaware of.

[And he'd seemed like such a nice, normal young man when they'd met.]

So two entirely separate cultures. Existing side by side.

[well, he is nice. Ish. Mostly when he's drunk.]

Exactly. And ne'er the two shall meet, so long as the Ministry has any say over how things are done. It's just easier that way.

I suppose it... avoids conflict.

For the most part, yes. Until the overly cliched events take over, and you find yourself with a Dark wizard murdering hapless Muggles left and right.

[if it weren't true, he'd almost be amused by her reaction.]

I don't really see any reason to lie about that sort of thing. Other things, perhaps, but not war.

No, I of course not, I'm just... surprised.

[And given to understatement.]

By what? The fact that even wizards have civil war? [a wry chuckle.]

I suppose not. But everything. I don't understand how something like that could go entirely unnoticed.

We keep ourselves fairly segregated. Muggle repellant charms, Unplottable charms, et cetera. There are all manner of precautions taken in order to keep ourselves hidden.
