Ok, so I need a job, I guess. I can work days or nights, any day of the week. I'd prefer not to be stuck in a stuffy office all day. I'm a people person and can easily chat to people. I don't mind a uniform.

You were paid to chat up and kiss blokes. Merlin, what a job.

I made good money at it.

Merlin, huh? That's an odd choice of word.

You know, I'm not sure that's something you ought to be proud of.

It's normal where I come from.

It's not like I was forced into doing anything I didn't want to do. Besides, getting paid to have blokes pay attention to me? Of course I'm proud of that.

[It's just that she didn't want the little old ladies of the village to give her that disapproving look.]

Fair enough. Are you from the past?

Well, I suppose. You could be far worse, after all. [idle comment? Backhanded compliment? Take your pick.]

Depends on how you define 'past'. Last I checked, it was 1998.

[She'll prefer to ignore it altogether. She doesn't know what his morals are and she doesn't much care either.]

Right, and where you're from in 1998 you use Merlin as an exclamation?

[probably a good way to go about it.]

Non-magical being. Are you going to question me every time I say something?

As long as you keep talking what sounds like utter rubbish, yes.

Pardon me, just because you don't understand it doesn't make it rubbish. It only means that you're uneducated.

Just because I ask questions doesn't mean I'm uneducated. It means I'm trying to understand things that have never come up before and therefore sound rubbish. You see how this works?

Trying to understand, and calling everything I know utter rubbish are two very different things.

Ah, there's that selective hearing again. I said it sounded rubbish, which leaves open the possibility that it very well isn't. And if you don't go on to explain it, how am I to understand?

Why should I even need to go on to explain it? It's not like your lot ever explains things. Just expect everyone to understand, like it's universal or something.

Maybe we would if we were ever asked to, just like you wouldn't if no one ever asked you.
