[video - a couple of locks]

[locked to federation Starfleet in any form]

[The video feed opens on a house (a mini-mansion, if you will). It looks a little worse for the wear. The front garden is overgrown, the paint is peeling, a few of the windows are cracked. Still, it's a beautiful house underneath the neglect, and big, too. Not as big as the creepy gothic mansion, but ( Read more... )

[For a second she thinks she wouldn't be welcome, but then she remembers she's not a vampire anymore. It's hard to get used to again.]

It's nice. What work does the inside need, if any?

Loose floorboards, peeling wallpaper, the paint is a mess, the kitchen counters need to be replaced, the cabinets need to be refinished and some of the shelves need to be fixed, the banister is off one side of the stairs, and there are some problems with the plumbing on the top two floors. Also, the roof needs some patching. I'll have to bring in a contractor for part of it, but a lot of the work I think we can do ourselves. More than anything, it needs to be cleaned. It's been sitting empty for a while, and the woman who owned it before me was too old to maintain the upkeep near the end.

Well... we've got to start somewhere. Once you know that everyone's moving in, I guess we could make a schedule and assign tasks to do, right?

Right. So...

When are you going to get here?

[Because clearly she's moving in, right?

Have a brand new shiny address, Christine.]

[Christine laughs.]

Hold your horses there, Chief! I'd rather live in a place where I don't risk going through the floorboards or take a tumble off the stairs. Let's say once a few major projects are done, I'll move my stuff in.

Hey now. The floorboards are only weak in three rooms and I've got those doors locked and marked. I'm not going to have my crew falling through floors. You people put yourselves in enough danger. Home is going to be a safe place.

The banister... you have a point there.

[She's not upset, though. It's just motivation. If the crew need certain things done to be willing to move in, then that just gives Uhura something to aim for and lights a fire under her ass.]

I just want us all together. I want us to be able to count on something in this city, even if it's only each other.

Good planning. Do I get to choose my own room? Is this a first come first serve sort of situation?

[Ok, she's sort of teasing here. Back to seriousness.]

It'll be nice to have the crew all under one roof.

After Halloween, ok?

[Uhura sighs in mock annoyance.]

Oh, fine. But don't blame me if you end up in a bedroom the size of a shoebox because you wait too long.

[Not that that will happen. The place is more than big enough for all of them, with plenty of spacious and quirky bedrooms and suites.]

I'll know to blame my own tardiness then.
