I'm not even pretending to sleep. It's too hot.I spent most of
the evening at a local cinema. Caught "Harry Potter And the Prisoner of
Azkaban". Give it three and a half stars. I liked most of it, but
the story felt patchy in spots. Some of that is
"translation" hassles; a 2 or 2 and 1/2 hour movie has to omit a
fair amount, and J.K.'s books aren't getting any shorter.
The hippogryph was a show-stealer. *laughs* Great special effects,
and the narrative wasn't bad. Lupin's plot from the book got
shorted out, and that would have been a nice element to keep,IMO.
Too much had to be wound up in only half an hour of film, or less.
Pettigrew was nicely creepy.
The dementors were chilling. I suspect they turn out to be a real problem
later for the "White Hats" in this series. They come across as more predatory than 'law enforcement'. Voldemort doesn't make an appearance this time.
*loved* the werewolf/Sirius smackdown, Harry's finally telling off some
of his idiot relatives, and Neville's solution to HIS worst fear, which, I
kid you not, involved Snape in drag. Yes, they showed that.
Off to update everywhere I can.
I'm sooo tempted to try setting up one of those ficathons or
contests myself. Wonder if anyone's done a Faith- or Gunn-centric
collection? Could be interesting.
londonbard, if you're on later today at all, look
me up on AIM. *hugs*
Anyone on the friendslist feel like being harassed/praised/bribed/interrogated/all of the above? I'm looking for someone to beta story material(fair warning, it's NOT BTVS.)
Some knowledge of martial arts or writing combat scenes would be
a major plus.
