Day 12: Lawn Worshippers

Aug 13, 2011 01:18

Manny and I left at what is becoming our usual time.  The sun was setting, and everything was quiet.  I saw a rabbit behind a house a little ways down the road, and another in the yard across from the house with the pine trees.  And as I walked, I noticed something.  Almost every yard I passed had been mowed in the past 24 hours.  Which leads me to ( Read more... )

Kevin cut our grass a couple of days ago. I asked him to because we live in a municipality that has lawn police. Yes, there is an ordinance here about how high the grass can be in your front yard. We've never been cited but I think the place across the street was once when the house was abandoned or foreclosed. So why risk it?

I'm not sure we've cut our grass for a month because it's been so hot or it's rained but we had a day with cooler temperatures where it hadn't rained for more than 24 hours. With it so hot, the grass wasn't really growing and the height, as you noted, helped to keep it from drying out.

We have a very healthy yard. When we moved in it was compacted and pretty much dead soil. We've had it aerated once, and we leave it a bit (hah!) long, and we don't put any chemicals on it. So it's really, really healthy, lots of earthworms and the like.

It grows really fast, even in the heat we've had lately. Our guy must be called... Which is ridiculous, we shouldn't have to keep calling him, and yet this year we've had to. Grrrrrr.
