Authors Note: Ahh, I have been having major writers block lately, and I just really needed to get something out. Boo this one isn't all that good, but oh well. It's a start.
Disclaimer: Not mine, I don't own anything except for the plot.
The counter was empty. The one and only worker was in the bathroom. The cameras weren’t working. It was the perfect opportunity.
Sid inched closer to the counter, his palms growing sweaty. He felt a small bead of sweat forming on the back of his neck.
This was never going to work - he was never going to get away with this.
Sid turned his head slightly, and caught a quick glimpse of Cassie standing outside the large window. She waved her hands frantically, a large smile plastered on her pretty face. Her medium length blonde hair and long pink skirt were blowing in the wind.
“Ok, do it. Just grab it and run. Do it,” He repeated to himself, eyeing the bathroom door as he finally reached the counter.
One more deep breath and…
Sid grabbed the small lottery ticket, and gripped it in his sweaty hands. As casually as he could, he shoved the ticket up underneath his black toque and let out a long breath that he hadn’t realized he had been holding.
First, outsmarting a drug dealer and now stealing lottery tickets? Was Tony incapable of doing anything? Why was it always Sid risking his health and criminal record?
Sid pushed the glass door open and walked over to Cassie, where she was now standing on top of a wooden bench, her arms spread out wide at her sides. A small smile appeared on his face, as he watched her swaying in the wind.
When she noticed him standing there, she jumped down and grabbed onto his shoulders. “Did you do it?” She asked, her eyebrows raised and her voice anxious.
He nodded slightly, and grabbed onto her small hand, dragging her around to the back of the corner store. When they were fully out of view of the worker who had just then walked out of the bathroom, Sid reached up to his toque and pulled out the small lottery ticket stub.
#10.
“Ah, shit!” He stomped his foot on the ground, and dropped the ticket stub to the ground. “I grabbed the fucking wrong one!”
Cassie cocked her head to the side, confused. “But ten is a lovely number.”
“No, it’s not.”
Bending down, Cassie picked up the ticket and examined it closely. “Oh wow. Sid, look!” She held the ticket up to his face and smiled then shoved it deep into her skirt pocket. He let out a quick sigh and glanced at what she was pointing too.
“Number ten, so what?” He asked, lifting his arms and placing his hands on top of his black toque.
She raised her eyebrows. “The number ten - you know, the day you first kissed me.”
“What? Cass, are you completely out of your mind?!” He shouted in aggravation. “Tony wanted number 20, not number 10! Now he’s -” He trailed off.
“You remember that?” Sid asked as a smile slowly took over his features. She nodded her head excitedly.
“I remember everything.”
Grabbing onto his hand, Cassie pulled him over to the wooden bench she was previously standing on and sat him down. Taking a seat next to him, she reached into her white tote and pulled out a small diary like book. It was pink, with a small white heart in the bottom right hand corner. As she flipped open the first page, there was a picture of her and Sid lying on the trampoline - the one where they had spent their first ever date.
“You see, I remember everything,” She continued flipping through the pages, all the while holding onto his hand, squeezing it gently every now and then.
Finally coming to the last page, Sid looked up at her. “Oh wow.”
Cassie giggled, and took the lottery ticket out from her pocket and opened to the tenth page, where it included a drawing of herself and Sid. Gently placing the lottery ticket underneath a piece of tape, she held it up for examination.
“Perfect,” She smiled at her artwork before closing the book and shoving it deep down into her purse.
Sid was in awe. He never would have guessed that Cassie cared about him so much. Not enough to make an entire scrap book about their relationship. He was touched, he was shocked, and most importantly he was in love.
“Hey Cass?” His voice was horse.
“Yeah?” She replied, her head still cocked to the side. Her blonde hair was blowing in the wind, every now and then tickling his chin.
Sid paused, trying to come up with the perfect way to ask. “Can I…”
She laughed, shaking her head. “Sid, you don’t have to ask.”
He was nervous - he was always nervous around her. “Ok,” He chuckled uneasily.
Leaning in, he pushed his glasses farther up on his nose with his index finger. No matter how many times he did this, it always worried him. He was always worried he wouldn’t be good enough. She had, of course had tons of experience.
Before he could chicken out, he leant forward and placed his lips against hers.
#10 was definitely his lucky number.
