Yeah, the vanity idea didn't really occur to me until someone said something to me...but I'm not actually stressing as much as it probably seems from the entry.
As a photogragher and videographer, I usually take excessive amounts of photos, primarily to have more options when I'm working on them. On one project-a final-I took about 50-62 shots for a slide of 5 frames. This may be normal for school projects and such but do I normally take pictures at a high rate or consider such behavior normal? Not if it interrupts your day to day activities. I may do a project once a week or month. Perhaps you do it because you like using your phone or because you like photography. Perhaps you do it because you like the way you look. Perhaps I'm pyscho-analyzing too much. I guess what it boils down to is what motivates you and whether or not that motivation is destructive, constructive or disruptive. If it is either of the said then yah, it's a good chance it's not beneficial.
Here's the average: 15-20 shots, many of which usually get deleted, depending on how lucky I am with angles, and under 10 minutes spent doing it. And I only do it once in a while.
I do it because it's fun, it's nice when I get good angles because for most of my life I hated the way I looked in pictures (good ones are still somewhat of a novelty for me), and I like having new stuff to put up on MySpace and blogs.

So what's your "professional" analysis?
