[The video clicks on to reveal a tall young man. He's sitting on a simple chair as though it were a throne, one leg crossed over the other, hands clasped in his lap. He wears a placid smile and never looks away from the camera. His deft, practiced mannerisms are those of a boy who has been on camera multiple times. There is no timidity, no ( Read more... )

Don't be offended if no one knows you from whatever exploits you've accomplished. It's not a mark against you, merely a facet of being on an interdimensional space ship. Your warden will be briefed once you've been paired through a file.

I deduced your inmate status from the fact that you don't know why you're here and your description of death. You have the Admiral to 'thank', though he's made you an inmate, so… well, all has its price.

No one here knows of me? That's... quite interesting. And not an entirely unwelcome prospect. My history has followed me wherever I have gone these past few years. Being one of the common people again could be a refreshing change of pace.

I am left to surmise, then, that all inmates experience some sort of near-death incident? Who is this Admiral? When can I meet him?

Yes, I rather know what that's like.

Well, popular wisdom is this is life after death, but given his abilities, I'm inclined to believe he's expert at cutting it finely. You meet the Admiral on the day of graduation when you tell him what you wish to do next. Which will be granted. Otherwise, no one meets him and no one ever remembers him after doing so.

You don't look familiar to me... but then, you wouldn't, would you? Am I to take it you are a figure of some influence in your world?

A reclusive leader? Hm. How ever does he maintain order? As far as I can tell, he has no specific lieutenants or officials to ensure his orders are carried out.

Certainly. Considering the alternatives.

You remind me of someone, only with better manners.

Should I take that as a compliment?

He was very smart, but people didn't like him much.

That's the problem with being smart. It creates a wedge between oneself and others.

[Someone has read your convo with Omega.] Why did you lie about being a warden?

[He's going to have to figure out how these 'privacy filters' work. For the time being, his expression is placid.] I never told you I was a warden. I simply said I wasn't an inmate. Which, at the time, was what I believed to be the case. I'm afraid I wasn't given any explanation prior to my arrival.

How would you not know if you were an inmate or not? Seems fairly obvious to me.

I understand you were given an explanation of the situation prior to coming here. I wasn't afforded that luxury.

Last I read, Achilles had no idea what a spaceship was, soooo I don't think I've actually heard of you. [But she's curious. So many weirdly named people, here.]

Not that Achilles. [He's almost amused.] I was only named for him.

Oh goo, I was worried Greece got to space really early in some universe. That would be kind of terrifying.

[Achilles chuckles.] Despite my name, I'm actually Belgian, not Greek.
