I had a feeling I'd need to do another one of these, but the
last post was pretty TL;DR already. Some questions were asked so I'll repeat them here and try to further explain how things like character movements and dice rolls work.
Can the book be removed from the room?
No, the book cannot be removed from the room, it can't even be lifted from the pedestal. But once someone has read it they'll be able to pass the information easily enough through the Network. Should they wish to...
How do we know where in the house the zombies are at any given time?
The movements of both characters and zombies will be recorded in daily (RL) Exploration posts. They will be similar to the Exploration posts you've seen previously. If any new rooms were found will be listed first, along with any items or omens found in that room. Following that will be a list of character and zombie movements, which will look like the following:
Alpha Zombie Holiday Storage Room (0) -> Kitchen (1)
Edward Elric Rooming (0) -> Main Hallway (1) -> Upstairs Hallway (2) -> Panic Room (3)
Weapons were mentioned. How do we know if our character found one, and what it's stats are if we did?
Weapon finds will be included in the Exploration post, below each character's movements. Those will look like the following:
Edward Elric Rooming (0) -> Main Hallway (1) -> Upstairs Hallway (2) -> Panic Room (3)
Edward found Baseball Bat. It increases his Might +1 in battle.
Weapons found during the Event will not augment a character's existing stats. So Edward's Might stat of 6 would not increase to 7. Some weapons can affect permanent stats, but not until the end of the Event.
Note: Weapons can be traded, given away, dropped, stolen, or lost.
Are dice rolls permanent changes to character stats, or just relevant in this particular situation?
In certain situations, that set of four stats characters received upon entering the house will be utilised in the form of dice rolls. The number of the stat will be the number of dice rolled. For this we used special dice that are numbered with only 0s, 1s, and 2s. The dice are then added together for a total. Edward, for example, has the following stats:
→ Speed: 3
→ Might: 6
→ Sanity: 4
→ Knowledge: 5
For a Speed roll, we would roll 3 dice. For a Might roll we would roll 6 dice. Sanity and Knowledge, 4 and 5 dice respectively.
In this Event, there are two ways the rolls are used. The first is in the situation with the Panic Room and The Zombie Survival Guide. Since a Knowledge roll of 6 is needed for both, anyone attempting must have a Knowledge stat of at least 3 to have any chance of succeeding. However, even with high stats it is still possible for character to fumble (ie. Edward rolling all 0s despite having a Knowledge stat of 5).
The second way rolls are used are in the battles between characters and the zombies. For this one, the Might stat is used. Here's a possible battle:
Zombie (8): 0 + 0 + 1 + 0 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 8
Edward (6): 0 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1= 6
In it, Edward's Might total was 2 less than the Zombie's Might total. This means Edward takes 2 in physical damage. He can either subtract it from his Might or Speed stat, or from both. If he decided to take it from just his Might, his stats would now look like the following:
→ Speed: 3
→ Might: 4
→ Sanity: 4
→ Knowledge: 5
Okay, so what about those character movements?
Character movement during this Event (and also during Haunts) is sort of like moving pieces on a game board, which each room and hallway representing a tile. A character's Speed stat reflects how far a character can go in any one move. Edward has a Speed stat of 3. This means he can move through 3 rooms each time, if he wishes to. He could move just one room, or just two rooms. So Edward can go from the Rooming Hall to the Panic Room in one move.
Rooming (0) -> Main Hallway (1) -> Upstairs Hallway (2) -> Panic Room (3)
Keep in mind where doorways are and if rooms have special requirements for entering them. The
Map can help with this.
As the Rooming Hall is the 'Safe Zone', all character movement will originate from that point at the beginning of the event. Any characters who join in the event after October 31 will need to start from there as well. Also, as it's kind of a weird exception, the Stairs to the Basement are also a space, but the stairs between the first and second floor are not.
