O, di immortales!

This is literally the first time I've signed into Live Journal in I don't know how long.  That's right, it's me.  The creator/abandoner of this wonderful little community.  In fact, it shames me to say that I sort of forgot it even existed ( Read more... )

The first comment is spam? That's so sad. I would love love love to work for the Betsy-Tacy house, but I live in Chicago. Other than that, I'd love to visit someday. Maybe I can try a summertime trip this year.

I recently found the re-released high school books at my local book store and bought all of them. I re-read Betsy and the Great World and Betsy's Wedding for the first time in years. I adored B&tGW as much as I ever did, and it makes me want to travel. BW...well, it was never my favorite, and although there are good parts, it still isn't. Something I always loved about Betsy was how ahead-of-the-times feminist she was, and suddenly she gets married and is all, "ZOMG, Tib is too independent and she'll never land a man and then Tacy and I won't get to be bridesmaids!!!1!" But that's pretty much the only quibble I have with the entire series, so I'll let it go.

I've been meaning to get down to Mankato- my friend and I are planning a run down this summer, hopefully it's something we'll actually do, instead of just plan.

I'm trying to think of ways to get this community more active... as well as trying to get get the word about Betsy out, but no one seems very interested. They don't believe me when I tell them she's actually really current and fresh. But there are no vampires, so no one seems to care. ;)

The subject line made me smile. :) Did you attend the convention over the summer? I so wanted to, but it's a long way from California. On the Maud-L list, they're planning a mini-con for SoCal next year, and I've been doing some research to try and help with that, since I'm originally from San Diego. Fun! I love having Betsy-Tacy connections way out here.

I'm a member of the community Bookish, which has kind of taken over my friends page lately. So when I saw a post with the subject line "O, di immortales," my first thought was that someone on Bookish was actually posting about Betsy-Tacy. Then I realized it was actually a post to this community, which made me smile.

I attended the convention informally in that I worked at one of the booths for an afternoon, hence I was able to witness the Great World-themed dinner and presentation, but did not actually partake. It was fun, though!

Wish I could make it to Minnesota sometime...I'm in Montana, so it's a bit of a drive. I'd love to see Betsy's house and everything, though.

Is anyone else super excited that the high school books are back in print? I was devastated when they went out of print several years ago, since I couldn't find Heaven to Betsy ANYWHERE and it was the only one I didn't have. (Finally found one in a used bookstore, but alas, it doesn't match my others.) I wrote a strongly worded letter to the publishers about it, and, to my surprise, I actually received a response. (I don't remember exactly what it said...something like, "Thanks for your concern, but we don't feel there is enough interest blah blah blah..." Mostly I was just impressed that I actually got a letter in reply.) Anyways, I'm glad they're out again...how are we supposed to convert people to the amazingness that is Betsy-Tacy if the books aren't available?

I would love to just SEE the Betsy-Tacy house, much less volunteer there, but alas, I'm in Florida! I love the books and converted another writer friend of mine and her daughter to loving them too. I'm so glad they keep being rereleased and loved.
