Wow. That's ridiculous. This is precisely why I keep thinking Open Source is a great idea because control of your own system is constantly being taken away from you by OSes, by spyware/malware, by rootkits. >_< Unfortunately, it doesn't have enough mass market appeal as of yet...

Anyhow, on to more pleasant topics: if I've got my time zone calculations right, Happy Birthday!

That's one of my main reasons for wanting to use open source, too. I don't like big companies dictating how I can use my own computer.

Yeah. The problem is I'm not sure it will ever reach the critical mass it needs to be marketable. Too much work for those who aren't as tech-savvy.

Some of the distributions are getting there, though.

We've installed Fedora on the admin computer at our craft guild - apart from me and my mother, no-one who uses it much is all that tech-savvy, and they manage. Free software is good for non-profits :) Then again, the computer isn't used for very many things.
