Oh wow. I saw a movie once-it was called Mystic Skin or something like that, I can't remember the name exactly-that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in. It was a pretty intense movie-it has at least one really graphic abuse scene, and it's very disturbing-but his performance was so excellent and amazing. I came away completely impressed, and I'd never cared anything about him before. Very very talented, he is.

The movie you're thinking of is called Mysterious Skin, and it IS really intense. He's also adorable, and soo cute in 10 things I hate about you. I love how the love interest he has in the movie is the same actress that played his girlfriend on 3rd Rock from the Sun.
