Baby Betta ):

So... I've had my first betta ( Starr ) for a while now. She is about 3 and a half years old. I went to the PetSmart the other day and I bought a baby betta. Short story-she died. I feel guilty about it and just sad. I know it's just a fish but I get very attached to my pets and I'm very attached to my older betta fish. When we were at the PetSmart ( Read more... )

Yes. I currently have a male and female (Danny and Judy) that I've had for 2 years, and a year ago I picked up a beautiful little yellow female from Petco, but she didn't make the drive home. I don't know what happened. She must have already been sick with something or perhaps the temperature in the car might have been too cold for her. At this point, I'm not sure. She was quite small so I assumed that she must have been six or seven months old judging by her size. I was very depressed about losing her so quickly because I never got to know her or witness her mannerisms and personality, but I'm happy that at least she was mine for a little while. Her name was Aurora.

That's how I feel... I was so excited to get a little one . Her name was Sky and she just passed on so quickly. I know I'll get another Betta fish one day, I'm just sort of scared too right now. I'm sorry that yours died while taking her home. That must have been awful. I agree though. For all I know she could have been sick but at least I was able to give her a nice home for a couple days.

I picked up a baby betta today at PetCo (I'd gone in to buy plants. Oops.). So far so good but it's not even been a day yet. I don't have a full aquarium for her yet, but the weather is still warm to hot though so temperature shouldn't be a problem. Plus frankly I'm afraid a filter would suck her up, she's so tiny. I'm more concerned as to whether she can eat the damn pellets. She's a bit big for "baby fish" food (which is essentially powder) but even the tiny pellets seem a bit much for her. (or is it a him? I honestly don't know yet!) For now I'm breaking up moist pellets and letting her pick them off the bottom of the tank (since they won't float once they're wet).

Now reading this I'm a little nervous. I hope my little one does okay! Sorry you lost yours. :(

Keep me updated? We got an adult male Betta at PetCo the other day and so far he is doing really well. He's happy in his new home and he loves swimming in it. I've heard it's difficult to take care of baby Betta's. I really do wish you luck with yours though. Sorry don't mean to scare you. I was just so heart broken and I still miss her, even with the new fish.

Oh I understand; I've had a lot of bettas over the years and it's never easy to lose them. I do appreciate your post as it's made me think to do a little extra research into baby bettas for any tips. And thanks, my fingers are crossed.

yes and no, I took home a baby the day it came into the store and its been good for 6 months. But alot of stores don't feed the baby's the correct size of food, so if they have been for any length of time, they may be starving - sad to say.
