Appearance: Haseo has a bunch of forms but he will be arriving in his second, complete with a fuckton of belts, tattoos, buttcapes, and random metal bits that do fuck-all.
Abilities: Haseo has the speed and dexterity of a Twin Blade combined with the strength of an Edge Punisher. Depending on which weapon he has equipped, he can take the role of the quick but balanced rogue or the powerhouse tank. As shown by this, he is both skilled with using both his hands in battle as well as strong enough to heft around a giant chainsaw-sword and swing it like it's nothing. He's also adept with a scythe, though his current character can't equip one anymore. Haseo also has the basic elemental spells of the first volume, which are fairly weak and don't get much use, but he does have them.
Video game skills aside, Haseo also has a power unique to him: his Avatar. He can summon the First Phase of Morganna, Skeith, and control it across another plane known as Avatar Space. Since Skeith exists on a different plane of the game (and thus in the Facility, another plane of reality), it can only be seen by others who have access to that plane. However, Skeith and other Avatars can affect things in the regular plane. Skeith is the smallest of the phases, but its also quick and powerful, and if a regular person was attacked by it they could be taken out in a single blow. Skeith wields a large scythe and can also shoot energy bullets, but its real power is in its Data Drain, which allows it to remove and rewrite data in other entities. Skeith also gives Haseo a natural immunity and defence against other Avatars attacking him, as well as powerful entities and viruses like AIDA.
Of course, the Avatar's power doesn't come without consequence. Skeith isn't 100% under Haseo's control, and abusing its power recklessly can lead to him losing control of it, which leads to rampaging AI deathbeasts. This is kind of bad! Also, having too many Avatars summoned at once tends to make them even harder to control, so if any multi-Avatar battles break out everyone has a higher risk of going apeshit.
Personality: Haseo is an unbelievably massive S-class douchewaffle. He's brash, rude, and selfish, always working to become stronger and taking down anyone who gets in his way. He sees The World as nothing but a game; something that needs to be won, not just experienced. He dislikes people and prefers to play solo, working hard to gain levels and experience instead of in groups for the sake of fun. He has a short fuse and yells a lot (REALLY LOUDLY) when he's angry or emotional. He's rebellious against authority figures, antisocial, and a huge selfish asshole.
But Haseo isn't completely heartless. He doesn't open up to many people, but he truly cares about those he considers friends. He hates people who look down on others and people who spread rumours and gossip. While there are few people Haseo opens up to, he has a soft spot for Shino and isn't afraid to show how much he cares about her. He also has a bit of a soft spot for young children, like Bo, and tends to be more polite to them.
He also tends to... repeat things. A lot. He likes to remind himself of things out loud so he doesn't forget. He usually does this in his head but sometimes it creeps into his speech. It's kind of annoying.
History: Ryou Misaki was once a sprightly 10-year-old who enjoyed [DATA EXPUNGED] until [DATA EXPUNGED] and he [DATA EXPUNGED]. Around six months after [DATA EXPUNGED] he recovered from his coma and completely forgot about everything to do with [DATA EXPUNGED].
SEVEN YEARS IN THE FUTURE Ryou decides to try out the online game The World R:2 for the hell of it. He creates his character, Haseo, and heads off to have magical adventures! Five minutes later his character has been PK'd ("player-kill" I am not repeating that explanation) and he hates everything ever. Fortunately, the mysterious Ovan just happens to be passing by (and definitely not stalking him no sir), kills the shit out of the PKs and revives Haseo. This encounter eventually leads to Haseo joining Ovan's guild, the Twilight Brigade, and meeting Shino. The Brigade struggles for awhile against a rival guild, TaN, as they attempt to find the legendary Key of Twilight, but after a massive fight breaks out at Coite-Bodher Battlefield Ovan vanishes and TaN is disbanded. With Ovan missing, the Brigade also disbands. Haseo stay by Shino's side, having grown close to her in their time together.
SURPRISE Shino gets PK'd by Tri-Edge, a mysterious PK whose victims go into comas IRL. Shino is now in a coma. Haseo screams a lot and vows to defeat Tri-Edge to bring Shino back. This eventually brings him to entering the suspicious Forest of Pain event, and Haseo is one of only two people to complete it. His prize is a (painful) level boost, bringing his character up into the hundreds, as well as skipping him to his third job extension. SUDDENLY HASEO IS A BADASS. With his new power he becomes a PKK, a PK-killing PK, and earns the nickname "Terror of Death" after defeating 100 PKs all at once. All of the PKs were ninjas, btw. Identical ninjas.
Eventually his information-gathering pays off and he encounters "Tri-Edge" in the Hulle Granz Cathedral, where he gets his ass royally owned. "Tri-Edge" Data Drains his character, knocking him out for awhile IRL and reformatting his computer. When he logs back into The World, Haseo has been reset to level 1. A cryptic e-mail from Ovan tells him to keep playing, so he continues his search for a way to defeat Tri-Edge and save Shino.
He runs into Silabus and Gaspard, a pair of players in a newbie-helping guild, who immediately mistake him for a newbie due to his level and insist on showing him how to play. At the end of their tutorial, however, they're stopped by Bordeaux, a PK Haseo had humiliated before. Bordeaux and her pals try to PK Haseo and his not!friends, but another player named Pi arrives and informs them the PK-preventing guild Moon Tree is on the way. Bordeaux absconds. The Moon Tree ruse was a distraction.
Bordeaux is targeting Haseo now that's he's all weak, so Atoli, a member of Moon Tree, befriends him. He finds her extremely annoying but her character looks exactly like Shino, so he tolerates her anyway. The pair go on a brief adventure that ends with being attacked by a dangerous bug called AIDA, but Kuhn arrives and saves them with his Avatar, Magus. Haseo wtfs at these shenanigans and once AIDA is defeated he gets an invite to Kuhn's supersecret guild because he is also an Epitaph User with his own secret Avatar. They are special and significant. He joins this guild, G.U./"Raven", after the guildmaster and administrator Yata explains to him that AIDA is connected to Tri-Edge and learning how to use his Avatar will allow him to defeat Tri-Edge. Haseo also somehow ends up as guildmaster to Silabus and Gaspard's n00b-helping guild despite being a huge dickwad.
Haseo enters the Demon Palace Tournament to in take down the AIDA-infected Epitaph User, Endrance, not because he's dangerous to the game as a whole but because Haseo thinks he's a dick. Silabus agrees to help, but since Gaspard is a pussy they need another party member!! Oh wait, we still have Atoli, hooray! Except Haseo is still a massive douchebag and ends up trying to eat her face when he was supposed to ask her to help. WHOOPS. But it's okay because after he almost gets his ass kicked by an extremely obvious trap Atoli saves him and agrees to help even if he's an asshole.
In his first tournament match his Avatar, Skeith, finally awakens, and Haseo loses control and wipes out his opponents. The players are unharmed IRL, luckily, but Haseo goes just a little powercrazy for awhile. Pi and Kuhn pull him aside and tell him hurting players is bad and he should totally not do that again ever. Haseo says LOL NO and proceeds to be a douchewaffle. Kuhn ragequits. Then he and Pi go off to show Haseo how to fight AIDAs, and Haseo ends up saving Pi from infection. He also happens to save Moon Tree's guildmaster Zelkova and gets a cool book for it, also his next tournament fight is against the Moon Tree member named Matsu, who is a bit of a tool. Haseo kicks his ass and gets a sweet sword for it.
Haseo's next match is against the former Demon Palace Emperor, Alkaid, and he promises to Endrance (who doesn't give a shit) that he won't even use his Avatar. PSYCHE he totally uses it anyway. Alkaid now thinks Haseo is a huge dickwad and she's totally right.
Kuhn is kind of pissed and doesn't think Haseo has learned his lasering-innocent-people-is-bad lesson. Conveniently, they also face off in the final round of the Tournament. Haseo gets pissy and ends up summoning Skeith again and the two have an Avatar battle, but Haseo loses control and Data Drains Magus into oblivion. Fortunately, Magus' special skill is creating copies of things so the real Magus/Kuhn is unharmed. Haseo decides lasering people is bad.
Finally, Haseo gets to fight Endrance. He succeeds in beating him and his Avatar, Macha, and destroys the AIDA!cat that was manipulating the former Demon Palace Emperor. Haseo ascends to the rank of Emperor himself and gets a big party and everything. All is good in the world and nothing can possibly go wrong!
Wait, no, Atoli has disappeared through a hidden warp in a Lost Ground and Haseo, Pi and Kuhn go to make sure she's safe. She is! Kind of, since she's a little crazy and saying how she wants to find Tri-Edge so Haseo will recognize her. Whoops, Ovan told her about how he only lieks her because she looks like Shino, sorry 'bout that man. Then suddenly "Tri-Edge" appears and Haseo immediately goes about kicking his ass, first in a regular battle and then in an Avatar battle. He destroys "Tri-Edge" completely, which does jack-shit to save Shino or any of the other Lost Ones. And then an AIDA pops out and attacks Atoli, stealing her Epitaph which she totally had all along. Atoli collapses. Haseo screams her name SO LOUD it cracks the fourth wall.
And then he wakes up in the Facility.
Roleplay Sample - Log: Haseo was slowly starting to realize just how many belts his PC had. Very slowly. As in one belt at a time.
Damnit, why did he have to pick that design?! At the time it seemed pretty cool and badass. Solid black leather, with some red and some gold in there from belt buckles--sure, there was a lot of exposed skin but its not like he'd ever actually wear that. And it didn't matter if the whole outfit was 90% belts, either. It looked cool with the rest of his character design, why not?
This was why not. He was at belt number eleven and he still couldn't get his damn pants off. God knows how many more he had to go. This costume was like bondage hell. It was damn tight, too, and it was going to be even worse trying to put this back on. Why the hell were these the only pants he had? He didn't even like leather pants. Or belts. Not this many belts, anyway.
More importantly, this was taking forever and he really needed to use the bathroom. Damnit, he had enough problems already! Where was he? Was Atoli okay? Why did he have all these stupid belts?!
Fifteen belts later he finally got the damn pants off and everything was good in the world... well, except for the part about being in a weird white place and having a collar around his neck, with no idea how he got here or why. But he'd have to figure this out one beltpiece at a time.
