I wonder what I am. Am I an intellectual? Am I an idiot? Why do I feel the need to group people into these two broad categories? Surely I know the world is full of spectrums. That's one of the main points they teach in college, after all, isn't it? But I need to do it, I'm compelled to try and understand my place in the world, and I need to know if ( Read more... )

I don't even have TV but I already feel so middle class American - lazy, bored, seeking passive entertainment to accompany my fast food. Gross. Why do you feel the need to know WHAT you are? Is there really a point in trying to find one's own "place" in the world? I don't believe people ARE anything except what they make themselves be; people only belong where they make themselves belong. I don't believe people have pre-determined places/destinies/essencies (in philosophical terms, read Sartre). It's all a matter of the sum of the decisions you've made MAKING who you are, not some precondition that IS you.

I've had the same problem with learning this semester. I know, at least for me, it's because I just don't find it (computer science) interesting anymore. I am aware of the fact that I am putting a mental block on anything I learn.

Speeking of haute couture, or however the fuck you spell it, I haven't seen nor heard from you in forever, every time I check livejournal I click "friends" close my eyes and hope to find a sweet little nugget of bethany brain for the reading, but alas they are few and far between because thats how you post--I guess this all really has nothing to do with haute couture, but yeah, so the fuck what, long live the Bethany.
