Am I the only one obsessed with Carnivale?

Since we don't have a TV, my hubby ran across this at Top Hat and rented it. Now I can't get enough. It's been a long time since a TV show has taken over my life.

Umm...I thought television was the devil. Even if you are watching it on DVD...it's still a television program!! I'm shocked and frankly mortified. Definitely.

I haven't ever seen this show - but it looks interesting.

;p

I just don't like to have to watch someone advertise to me. No TV, no commercials.

Advertisements - which have definitely gone overboard in most cases now - just need to be looked at for information. Ignore 'em. You don't HAVE to do anything with them. Life is full of advertisements - most of them worse than what we see on tv.

I do understand where you are coming from though. ^^

But, see, if I want that kind of information, I'll seek it out. Until then, I'd rather not have my son be able to quote/sing all of the fast food jingles by heart, when he still doesn't know how to count to 20 yet.

That really irks me.

domianax is obsessed with it, too, but I don't think he knew that it was available on DVD yet. Thanks for letting me know! We'll have to rent it too. I have never seen it.

Yes, yes, and it's going for around 40 bucks on ebay. It's $99 on HBO.com. I'm seriously considering buying it.

I watched it once, back when I had a tv. It had several topless women, and it showed everything. I didn't watch it again after that...it just didn't seem necessary to the plot. I don't think people give subtlety enough credit.

That is my problem with the movie Schindler's list. While I agree much of the stuff shown in that movie was true to form - there was PLENTY of unnecessary scenes, nudity, and violence that could have been shown in other ways. Movies like "Life is Beautiful" and "Swing Kids," while definitely being a "lighter fare" than this movie, showed much of the same emotion and loss that Schindlers List did, more subtle, and in my opinion, better.

A little off topic there - but I agree with you - which is why I don't watch most of those HBO series. Not enough subtlety, as you say.

I definitely agree that it needs to be more subtle... And unfortunately I'm a bit obsessed with it, despite the fact.

And it's quite shocking in much of its content and INtent.

But, alas, I am weak for the moment. The story has me by the throat. Maybe I'll get sick of it.

(...justification, justification...)
