a/n: never seen the movie, just going off what I've read of it.
They make it halfway through the movie before she catches Castle quoting a line along with Leslie Nielsen and figures out she's been had.
"But like you," he murmurs along with J.J. Adams, "the Krell forgot one deadly danger- their own subconscious hate and lust for destruction."
His gaze is fixed to the screen in front of them and she finds herself caught between amusement and annoyance as he lapses into silence, munching quietly on a handful of popcorn while Doctor Morbius speaks of mindless primitives and evolution.
Of course Castle has seen Forbidden Planet before. Beckett almost wants to kick herself for not realizing sooner because it's just the sort of movie he loves. Still, if he hadn't pretended otherwise then perhaps she wouldn't have felt the need to drag him along to see it, and despite his subterfuge she really is enjoying herself.
"You know Castle, I never thought this movie was quite that predictable," she says, fixing him with an icy glare. She's really not all that upset but it doesn't mean she can't make him squirm a little.
Castle gulps audibly. "I... read the summary?"
"You, Mister Castle, are in trouble." It takes a bit of work but Beckett manages to keep her grin from showing.
"Well, I just-"
"Robot got your tongue, Ricky?" She smirks when he doesn't answer. "Okay, here's how it's gonna go- we're gonna watch the rest of the movie and then you are paying for Remy's. And then we're gonna have a long discussion about why you shouldn't lie to me, ever."
"Technically I didn't actually-"
"You still remember your safe word don't you? Go ahead, keep talking..." She raises a hand as if to grab his nose and he chooses (wisely) not to finish his thought, just as the older man in the row behind them clears his throat, obviously disgruntled by their less than quiet bickering.
"Sorry," Castle mutters back looking anything but apologetic, if the tiny smirk that's growing on his face is anything to go by.
It's not very long before her own matches it.
