We are in the process of having our hall wall and ceiling repaired and painted. So far, things are going very well (she said, cautiously tapping the wood of her desk.) I am cautious because past experiences have proved that these matters can be very problematic and stressful

I am both amused and appalled that you had the idea that a 20-year-old man with a live-in girlfriend (he mentioned her on several occasions, actually, and we met them both at a movie) would consider me as a prom date. Forgive me, but WTF??!! I don't get it. I really don't. (Fortunately, I appear to have turned out okay, in spite of your efforts.)

1. I didn't know he had a girlfriend. I guess you did talk to him, then, since you found out that about him!

2. He was probably 20, you were 17. That's not much of a stretch. My first boyfriend was two years older than me.

3. And I would never have mentioned this aspect of this story if I hadn't felt that I was also mentioning that you got a date for the prom, that you now have a husband and that you have children. Obviously you turned out okay.

3.And I thought it was almost fashionable to have spent one's highschool years as a geek, or shy, especially when one was looking back from a position of strength, and you certainly are at such a position. However,

4. I apologize for telling this about you. I felt I was making fun of myself for being so stupid as to think such a thing would happen and to have had such a weak reason for hiring workers. All mothers worry about such things, as you will possibly find, but I'm sorry if I made you feel like the girl in Glass Menagerie.
