[Character name] Kazuo Kiriyama
[Age] 15
[Canon] Battle Royale
[Point in time taken from canon] Post death

[Background] It is implied that Kazuo Kiriyama is the illegitimate son due to maternal infidelity. Of course, this is never actually proven since both his parents are now dead. He lost his father at a young age and his mother in a car accident while she was still pregnant with him. This accident basically gave him a partial lobotomy and removed his ability to process human emotion and made him indifferent to the suffering of others. He was a prized child from the start and was raised in the grand Kiriyama estate. He came from the wealthiest family and that title carried over to when he started school.

It was always easy for him to learn things and understand things. He was very accomplished in school even when he didn't show up. The material taught there was easy for him to grasp. But, he didn't have any friends. Mainly because he didn't grasp the concept of friendship and could do his own thing. Things changed some when a classmate of his was being beat up by older students. Caring nothing about what was happening to the other, he came out from where he was painting to say that they were being too loud. The older students didn't like his attitude and proceeded to attack him. He beat up every last one of them despite them being larger than himself without breaking a sweat or needing to catch his breath. Silence restored, he went back to painting.

That was the start of the Kiriyama family. Their gang of delinquents built up with Kazuo as their leader. With him guiding them they could pull of heists from stores without getting caught and always got the best goods. He hung out with them since it was something to do at the time. It didn't matter to him what they actually did really.

In the country he grew up in, middle school classes would be selected at random to be a part of a game called the Program. The rules were simple. Kill off all your classmates until only one of you remains. It turned out that his class was chosen. While under the guise of a study trip, they were all gassed and taken to an empty island where they were told they would be participating in this game. He only had one question to ask in response to that. When did the game begin? As soon as they stepped out that door.

Passing a note to his gang, he told them all to meet him at the southern most point of the island. As soon as he was released, he headed there. After all but two members arrived, he decided he would flip a coin to determine if he would play the game or find a way to escape from here. When the coin landed, things were decided. He would play. His assigned weapon was a knife so he killed those there and the girl they'd brought with them. Another member arrived and he took the MAC-10 he'd gained from one of his gang and killed him with it too. That left one more. He would later kill him by tricking him into staying in a forbidden zone so that his collar exploded.

From there, Kazuo went on to become the deadliest killer in the game. He was cold and cruel, slaughtering without mercy. Other students feared him because even when they tried to take him down he just wouldn't die. It looked like nothing could possibly kill him. The game continued until finally there were only four out of the original 42 students left. Shuya, Noriko, Shogo...and Kazuo. The first three were grouped together and he hunted them down.

In a dramatic shoot out/car chase, he followed after them with every intention of killing them. It seemed like he would win too. He shot Shogo and was ready to finish them all off when a gun fired and a bullet went through his face. Noriko had made her first and only kill by shooting him. Shogo went over to him and shot him again to say that she hadn't actually killed him but the fact remained that she had. Later, his final kill would die since Shogo would not be able to recover from the injury he'd obtained from Kazuo.

His total count in the end was 13 kills. The most kills out of all his classmates

[Personality] The first and most important thing to remember about Kazuo is that he feels no emotion. He simply isn't capable of it. Shogo describes him as hollow and that's pretty much what he is. Fear, joy, sorrow...he cannot feel any of these due to what happened to him before he was even born. This is how most people tend to decide to do things. Is this too scary? Will this make me feel good? Does that make me happy? He is nothing like this.

Instead, he just makes a choice. To do or not to do. One example that might be the best concerns the game. When everyone else had some kind of struggle about playing the game, he did the following. He flipped a coin. If it landed one way then he would play the game and try to win. If it landed another then he would try to escape. When the coin landed, the result was that he would play to win. Because of this, the group that he hung out with in school died because of him. They believed him to be their friend and leader but he felt no emotional attachment to them at all.

To him there is no difference between painting, playing the violin, and killing off his classmates. In his mind, it is all just something to do. As he states to one of the members of his gang in a flashback when asked about being a rich kid stealing things, "this is fun too." Basically, he doesn't feel the emotional response of fun but he does it anyways since it's something to do at the time. But he would react the same way if they were off having a study group together. Even when Mitsuru suggested he wear his hair slicked back, he did so just because. There was no reason behind it since he didn't like or dislike it.

He is gifted with genius level intelligent and a natural ability to adapt to any situation. During the game, he goes after Shinji to kill him. Shinji sets off a bomb in order to finally kill of Kazuo. In the last possible moment, Kazuo dove into a vehicle so that when the explosion happened, it would be sent flying out. When the vehicle landed, he stepped out of it completely unharmed and proceeded to kill off Shinji. During the game he is portrayed as being cold and endlessly calm. Nothing shakes that composure of his.

For the most part, he is quiet and keeps to himself. Though his calm persona can inspire others to follow him, he just doesn't care about any of that. He lives in a moment to moment basis. At school he could be found reading in a corner. He didn't always come to school because he didn't need to. He'd mastered those things the others knew already or could in the blink of an eye. With his gang, they would rob stores or hang out or beat up other gangs. In the game, he was a cold and cruel killer who hunted his prey until he found them then shot them down without even thinking about it. This makes him neutral for the most part. He has no concept of what is good or bad since that would require feeling something.

Kazuo is a genius with no emotions. He has no friends because he cannot have any attachment to them. Basically, he's just looking for things to do to pass the time until it's time to do something else.

[Abilities] Despite the following, it is important to note that Kazuo is completely human. He has no special power or ability. This means that he can die (he does die in canon) and he can be injured (that happens in canon too) and he can become ill, etc. Disclaimer done.

Kazuo has a seemingly unnatural ability to master any skill as if it were nothing at all. It doesn't really matter what exactly that is, he can watch someone do it and then go on to master it himself faster than just about anyone can possibly imagine. It can be something like playing the violin or complex martial arts movements that only a master who has been practicing the art for years can manage. He can pick up on things rather quickly. In the game, he was the first student to pick up on what the game was about and thus became the deadliest student there.

However, once he has mastered something, he isn't likely to continue with it. He creates paintings that are masterpieces and could be sold as priceless pieces. Once he's done creating them though, he throws them in the trash. After he was done mastering the violin, he threw that in the trash as well. By the time, he has mastered it, he's lost interest in continuing with it. Though these things might be difficult for others, they're easy for him and he doesn't see a reason to continue. When people ask him how he learned to do something he will just say "I just learned."

Despite his smaller frame and delicate looks, he is far from weak. He can take on a group of people larger than him and either beat them senseless or kill them without breaking a sweat.

As stated before though, he doesn't have any powers and is completely human. This means that he can't imitate superhuman powers and he can be defeated by them.

[Other important stuff] Kazuo is not likely to respond to things the way others would. Things that require an emotional response are lost on him. However, while he is dead with emotions, he is a genius. He learns things very quickly and remembers everything he sees, hears, learns. That information is stored away until he decides to actually use it. Now, what most don't realize is that something like morals is something that heavily involves emotions. Therefore, he can be a good citizen or bad just by deciding what to do in a single moment. It will not be easy for people to predict what he's going to do. That said, he is completely human.

Video//Later Voice

[The face of a handsome boy comes onto the screen. His eyes are cold and his hair slicked back. For awhile he just stares at the screen, tilting his head like he might be curious but there are no signs of that emotion on his face nor a flicker in his eyes. There's a pause then the screen goes blank as he tries out a filter.]

[Third Person]

The library of Somarium was quiet and calm. Much like libraries were supposed to be. At one of the tables towards the back sat a boy silently reading a thick volume. He was paying very little attention to the world around him, lost completely in the words and diagrams provided to him. As usual his hair was slicked back and his clothes were so neat they could be described as perfect. Of course, he didn't seem to be paying much attention to that either.

Turning the page, he heard a loud group of people come in. They were rude and didn't care that there might be others reading.

He ignored them.

It wasn't until they started shoving each other into tables and chairs that he finally closed the book. There was a lot that he'd just learned from this book and he could apply it to now. See what actually worked according to the text. Standing, he heard one of the boys say something about how the pretty boy must be upset. He tilted his head at that.

Upset? What was that? He couldn't apply an appropriate meaning to what he supposedly was since he knew he did not feel what the definition of the word was.

They surrounded them and anyone watching would have seen that they were all much larger than him. One reached out to touch him and that was when things kicked in. He grabbed a pressure point in the hand that had the other crying out in pain. A sharp jab to another in his chest then another in his side. A blow to the back of his head and he crumpled to the ground. Turning to the others, he moved swiftly and jabbed at pressure points in all of them until they were all a writhing mess on the floor.

Tilting his head, he went back and picked up his book to go and put it away. He only had this to say.

"Mm. They all work."

The book he had been reading for the first time was put away on the shelf and he left the library to go do something else. The title of the book was the following: Pressure Points of the Human Body.

[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I have played Kazuo before and I find him one of the most fascinating characters I've ever played. Seriously. I love to play him at the game I'm at now and I'm so interested in seeing what happens when I throw him at Somarium. It's impossible to tell what will happen with him and I love that about him.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] No Playercest. You guys should know this well since I answer it this way every time.
[Any questions?] Do you love me~?
