Character Background for Shihouin Yoruichi at checkmate_rpg
Yoruichi has been doing what she does best since Aizen took over; keeping a low profile and being stealthy like a ninja, gathering information about the opposition as best she can and spending most of her time as a little black resistance reconnaissance kitty.
Immediately after the fall of Yamamoto, she made sure to steer clear of the chaos that Seireitei had fallen into by laying low with Urahara in the Karakura, keeping her eyes and ears open for any kind of weakness that could be exploited to switch the balance of power back in their favour. Her hopes were dashed; Aizen’s takeover was absolute and left no opening that could be exploited.
Even though the aftermath of the takeover left the Gotei 13 short handed, Yoruichi has never felt the urge to return to her former position. Firstly, she would not seek to deprive Soi Fong of her position and secondly, she feels that her talents are much better suited to espionage and acting outside of Central 46’s jurisdiction. Having lived as a free-spirit for over 100 years, she perhaps enjoys being accountable to herself a little too much to go back to adhering to the strict set of rules that she had never really set much stock by anyway during her time in Seireitei. She acts as a free agent, but an ally to Soul Society.
She has been travelling back and forth between Soul Society, the Living World and Hueco Mundo, feeding information back to Urahara and those in the resistance by extension. Usually she deals with Ukitake himself on ‘official business,’ but still keeps her friendships within the Gotei 13 alive by popping in to visit. (Her ‘Spontaneous Sushi and Sake Soirees’ with Kuukaku often lead to hangovers of massive proportions.) In addition to Shinigami business, she keeps a watchful eye on the spiritually aware in Living World. Her primary objective has been searching for ways to break into the King’s Realm, but as of yet these have all turned out to be fruitless.
The last few months have seen her heavily embroiled in an information seeking mission, which is why her presence on the network has been non-existent. She prefers to leave no trail behind her when looking into things for Urahara.
