If those were not isolated events, as I suspect they were most likely not, and this is indeed a world consumed by murder, then perhaps I have been brought here for a reason. It has always been my duty to investigate and aid in putting an end to such criminal acts.

It is vaguely encouraging that at least a few of the inhabitants here are not ( Read more... )

...I think we're all here for a reason, too. That would make sense, right? I mean, why else would we have been..."picked"?

While I cannot pretend to know for certain that the selection process is not random, I believe that, yes, it would make a great deal of sense.

Yeah.....or maybe it's only random sometimes. That would explain why I'm here.

Yes, I suppose that is a logical suggestion. I'm afraid I don't understand why it would. Are you implying that there is no reason for your selection?

I'm not one so quick to believe that we're here for any known purpose other than one we make for ourselves.

Any theory that we've held on the question 'why' is easily refuted.

But I quite agree, making this place habitable while we seek a way out seems our best bet. I have no desire to bask in filth any longer than I have to.

And magicks are hardly supernatural unless you've been living under a rock for the past... oh, several millenniums?

It is entirely possible, of course, that we have been brought here at random. Whether or not we were brought here for a purpose, however, I still intend to fulfill what I see as my duty.

Yes, I feel it would be in everyone's best interest to improve conditions here. I am sure we are all quite modern enough to understand the need for sanitary living conditions.

In my personal experience, supernatural phenomena such as "ghosts," as it were, are often tied to a belief in magic, if indeed they are not one and the same. I maintain that all those things, however, must have a basis in science to even exist.

That is a good idea, though I'd simply prefer to find a way out. I believe my cuffs have suffered enough filth already.

And indeed, sanitation would be a welcome change. If I could find a proper building, it would be a feat but worthwhile one to set up a bathing facility as they had in Archades. Steam rooms and such. We certainly have enough people with water-based magicks to pull it off...

I see. You see, in my world, Magicks are a very part of life and intimately tied in with the study of physics, engineering, biology and chemistry. As far as I've seen others, magicks are either treated as separate from science, or people are shocked to learn of their existence.

I do not doubt that the majority would agree with that assessment. Locating a way out would be, of course, highly desirable.

"Water-based"...? Curious. I don't believe I am familiar with these people.

Ah! How very fascinating. I will admit, I am quite inrigued to learn that magic, in your world, is indeed connected to the sciences, as I have always suspected is the case in my world as well.

Maybe that makes sense. If we had more reason to be here aside from repopulation, maybe this wouldn't feel like such a forced march.

If nothing else, it is certainly more appealing than the idea of...er, "repopulation," as our sole purpose. One can only hope that there is some logic, some underlying reason, to this madness.

Even for those who do wish to return home, whether or not they can is an entirely different matter. So, yes, I quite agree that we ought to make some sort of effort towards making this area habitable.

That is, at least, somewhat reassuring.

Consumed by murder from that bastard, terror-stealing hobo! A few knives in the side, a few constricted airways, and suddenly a lowly criminal is garnering all the revulsion and fear without even trying. WHY DO HUMANS INSIST ON BEING PANICKED IDIOTS?!?! My plague of evil that infects the soul of every living creature and destroys the frail fabric of society>>>>>>>>>>>>>> his silly killing spree.

If by supernatural, you mean these pathetic ghosts running around, then yes.

Mass violence and ceremonial killings are quite sufficient at inspiring revulsion and fear. Whether or not the man was "trying" to do such seems irrelevant. And if you are feeling inclined to unleash this so-called "plague of evil," I suggest you do not; because I assure you, you will be stopped.

I was referring to them, yes.

Blah blah blah, all I'm hearing is "I'm just another pasty white 'intellect' who fancies himself a hero." Hehehehe, who do you think is going to stop me, Mr. Smartypants? The unfashionable Hero woman is gone, and everyone else is either too busy trying to fix this dump or putting each others' body parts in their mouths!! There is no one to stop me, Evil King Stan! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Oh. Them. I've seen better ghosts in kitchen sinks! Even my useless slave can slaughter them without his magic! Now that's just sad.

I can assure you, claiming to be a "hero" is certainly the furthest thing from my mind. My only interest is ensuring that justice and some semblance of the law is upheld. While I am not familiar with the woman you speak of, nevertheless, there are quite enough people to stop you, should you choose to act on your words. They seem to be little more than mere words, however.

I have but little to compare them to, nor am I fond of ghosts, so I will not dispute that.
