LJ Idol: Bewize, in the Dark

And if thou gaze long at an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee.

~ Friedrich NietzscheYesterday, as part of my year of 40 x 40 (40 awesome things I’m doing for myself as a gift the year I turned 40), I went to a spa and had a float in a sensory deprivation chamber. The mechanics behind it are simple - dump a bazillion pounds of Epsom salt ( Read more... )

This made me laugh. I could really relate to the stream of consciousness. Very brave of you to spend that much time in sensory deprivation. I don’t know if I could do it.

I'd like to try this! However there's always a voice whispering 'But what if I have claustrophobia?'

This was so fabulous and funny and awesome! I think you and I would probably get along, I can imagine myself having all those thoughts, especially going from calm to yelling at yourself, and anxiety thoughts, and having to steer them back to happier thoughts. I LOVE THE PUPPY ANALOGY!!! I've been saying I've been trying to treat my anxiety like a small naughty animal, and kept imagining some bizarre tiny monster living in my brain where I have to be like nooooo, NOOOOO, stop that!! sometimes. Sometimes you have to lock away cute puppies because they're destructive. That is the best analogy ever for anxious thoughts. I will definitely remember that!

Hahaha--the random, flowing thoughts were fun to read, and so relatable.

“I should probably think about important self-improvement things in here.”

Shouldn't we always, when presented with an opportunity like that? But it turns out, it's not just an issue of not having enough time for that. It's that the process is also tedious and boring, so who wants to actually DO it?

Glad you're back this season!

When I did this my impossibly loud heart beat freaked me out. I could feel the blood pumping around and was too aware I was just meat, floating in a tank. My friend insists that I will get better at it if I do it more, but I haven't found a place nearby that I like. I did feel supremely relaxed once I got used to my heart's pounding.
