LJ has eaten up my first comment, *argh*

Trading glances (and speaking in codes during dinner table) - I fondly remember those times. And now my own girls do it and then I know they're up to no good, lol.
The ear tugging is sweet too.

Looking forward to hear more of their secrets.

We did that, too, exchanging silent codes at the dinner table. We figured our parents were oblivious--that wasn’t the case, of course, as my mom now delights in telling us!

Thank you!

I always thought Alma's threat to call Milquetoast Monroe to the rescue had a hollow ring to it - I imagine he was more than a little intimidated by Ennis. Very touching - and very telling - that the girls ran after Ennis and wanted to stay out on the porch. I'm glad to see the tight bond between the sisters - anxious to hear what further thoughts are brought to the surface.

Thanks - Marie

Monroe seems such a non-entity. He might be concerned about his family’s wellbeing, but I sure can’t see him going at it with Ennis.

Thank you very much.

I like how this story looks at how the girls pictured things. Joe

Thanks, Joe. I'm hoping that their memories are true to both the film and to typical "little girl" impressions of what goes on around them.

I continue to be amazed at how much you can reveal about a character in a just a few words....Monroe taking the ashtray and cigar with him to stand in the kitchen doorway, Jenny tugging on her ear...
And the revelations about why the girls weren't helping with the dishes, and how they stood on the porch in the cold, are more of those welcome Of course that's how it must have happened moments for me. Thank you for this. Hope you've got more planned.

Thank you. There is a lot of detail that has come from small aha moments I have experienced while watching the film. I am very flattered that you think they have woven themselves into something coherent.

Monroe, always struck me as someone who didn't have a lot of passion - and it seems you agree in part.
That "Thanksgiving" - that's one I'm sure they both remember well.
Thanks again.

Thank you. Sometimes I wish Monroe could show more passion, because he must have had more substance than what we see. That Thanksgiving serves as one of the primary turning points in the girls’ questioning/understanding of what happened.
