Yesterday afternoon, Jay and I were talking about our wedding. Though we are both well-aware of the fact that it is about 5 years down the road, there was a section in the Sunday paper dedicated to wedding planning, and it sparked our interest ( Read more... )

Good luck with all of this. :)

Just so you know, there are some really great ways to save a few bucks here and there with some of these things. I remember going through the same thing to plan my wedding before.

True that. But please tell me... does the $1500, INCLUDING ALL RINGS, make your brain want to shut down?!? YES! My brain dies a little more every time that I think of it!

I think your estimated total cost is very good if you can stay within that budget. I remember in high school (5+ years ago) a sister of a classmate was getting married, and her wedding was much more expensive than yours would be with your estimate. I don't understand why your parents would be upset with your estimate and complain about certain items, which the groom would be expected to take care of anyway.

I don't understand why your parents are upset when they aren't paying--you should tell them to fuck off. Well, I guess YOU should tell them to shove off, but whatever. And $1500 is bull, my dad spent $4000 on Tina's engagement ring--I picked it out, so I saw the register and reciept.

I know! I give up.

*sigh*

Speaking of your Dad and Tina, how are they doing? Tell Tina that I said hi, and I miss her and luv her! Haha.

How long ago did they get married? When I think back about what I heard from my parents wedding in '77ish, I might be able to understand it. My parents got married at my aunts house. My mom wore a dress she made and my dad wore a suit he already owned (maybe from his first marriage, I never asked, lol). The wedding party consisted of all relatives, and the "reception" was in the dining room. My moms wedding ring (I dont think she had an engagement ring) was fairly plain, probably under $300.

Now dont get me wrong. Your wedding numbers seem perfectly fine to me. I estimate my wedding *COUGH* (if that should ever happen of course) to cost an arm an a leg. I'm just saying, depending on when they were married, and how they went about it, I could see how a wedding decades ago could cost less than a 37" Widescreen HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV. HAHA. This is why i mother f'ing love you, JR (with no periods). You hear that!? F'ING!!!!

Anyway... They got married in the summer of 1980. My mom did buy her dress and shoes and veil, my dad did rent a tux. They had 4 attendants on each side. My dad worked at a Jewlery store, so he DID get a discount on all 3 rings, but STILL! I think they are liars. But with all of the other loving and trustworthy thoughts, opinions and gestures that they've shown me over the past 23 years, I don't know why on earth I'd let this be the one thing that makes me question their judgement. Silly me.

tee-hee, you said "f-ing"

Actually, the thing I love most is that you pointed out "JR (with no periods)"

hahahahahahaha
I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing at that part about the construction paper invitations... hahahaha. That made my day.
Seriously I think your calculations are on target. I planned my wedding a couple years ago when I was engaged and I expected it to be around $10000 and that was low because we didn't have many guest coming and only 3 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen.
I did some part time work as an assistant for a bridal consultant so let me know if you need any help with the planning or have any specific questions.
