DREAM BOYS 2009 SPECIAL PART TWO

presenting the multi-faceted collaboration between

kamenashi kazuya x shibutani subaru x tegoshi yuya

serious talk about "MY DREAM"

the musical [DREAM BOYS] starts on september 4th, and the actors kamenashi (KAT-TUN), shibutani (kanjani 8) and tegoshi (NEWS) have absolutely nothing in common, whether be it their groups or their age, and they talk to us about their dreams.

kamenashi kazuya

I really wanted to be a baseball player. and that was even when I entered johnny's, because my boss told me, "YOU, go be part of the johnny's baseball team!" (laughs), and so I didn't throw that dream away. even having said so, there were more and more other things I had to do that drew me away, and I began to walk further and further down a path that wasn't baseball, till today, when I get a chance, I still feel that I want to be a baseball player. even though I know it's totally impossible, I still want to be one. to me, being a baseball player is an awesome concept.

in our era, not just in terms of baseball, but we've been born into a wonderful time where we are more able to feel than before that the world is closer to ourselves. it's an era where we can go out into hollywood! now we can go overseas to play at a reasonable price, and we can experience cultures at a more personal level, isn't it. I think that we end up being envious of people being born into a time where the way to the world has opened up. I'm in a situation where if I have to take action myself, or I won't be able to do anything, and it's really motivating.

as for myself at this present moment, I don't have any huge dreams. that's because I haven't decided on my ending point yet. when I try to decide, I look at the things I need to do, and I want to go the extra mile for it, I want to go in this particular direction, and so on. it's a career where I'm not sure of what will happen ahead, but I want to be a man who has the strength to be able to cope with whatever that may happen.

if you ask me about wishes I have that aren't so huge, it'll be a trip to london. just half a year, no, just a 3 month trip will do. or just 1 week will do too. I want to try living in london. I don't really have a clear reason as to why I want to do that, but I've always wanted to go to london and paris since a long time ago. I've gone to paris before, and it was interesting. when I reached there, I was like OMG! I thought, man, I really like this place. it's like if I bring a girl here and propose to her, it'll definitely work. it'll be like a Parisienne romance? I doubt it. if that happen, then I won't be in japan anymore, right (laughs)? and if I ask someone in paris, "do you have a cigarette? can I have one?", won't that be more like extortion (laughs)?!

shibutani subaru

when I was a kid, my dream was to become doraemon. it wasn't to become a (power) ranger or a (kamen) rider sort of hero, but I wanted to become doraemon. I suppose when I was small, I wanted that body with the amazing pocket, and so I wanted to turn into doraemon. (doraemon has this amazing pocket where he pulls out many hi-tech gadgets to help save the main character from whatever crap he gets into.)

when I entered the entertainment world, I didn't have any dreams or wishes, so I felt that there was a problem with the way I was comfortable with the environment around me. so when I get interviewed like this, I thought, "you probably won't be interested in a brat like me, right?!", and I was pretty suspicious of the adults who continued on with a smile on their faces. that was how it was. but for the past 2, 3 years? I've begun to feel that I want to have some dreams too.

this is probably something that comes with age, but I don't exist alone, I'm one member of the whole of kanjani 8, and my existence is something more now. even if I didn't find the way to progress, I can see the way when I have group activities. I think this is something I wouldn't have been able to find if I were alone, and so I'm really grateful to kanjani 8.

but...in september I'll turn 28. when I was 15 or 16 years old, I thought that at 28 I'd be an uncle, and I had an image of myself doing things really steadily, but it seems like I'm not quite like that now. while I didn't really hope for it to turn out this way, I suppose that's the way I am. when I looked back at my past compositions, I felt that my older works had a "so young!" feel to it. even though I could feel the youthfulness of it, the way the lyrics are written are somehow still the same, whether it's an old work or a newer work. it's like that part of me was left untouched. and the melody was written by me too. the songs are like a diary, because I just wrote whatever I felt on that day, at that time, and wrote it out realistically. especially because while I want to write about philosophies, I can't seem to write them. so I thought about the real feelings I had when I wrote the song.

my birthday is on 22nd september, which is also kanjani 8's nationwide debut. this anniversary date is fated, isn't it. now I'm accumulating various experiences, and when I hit 30, I think it'll be nice if I could say confidently that "this is who I am", and discover something about myself too. right now, I just want to do each and every part of my job like it is something precious to me.

tegoshi yuya

I've been playing soccer since I was a kid in kindergarten. so obviously, my dream was to become a soccer player. I really worked towards that until I was around my 3rd year of junior high. j-league started when I was 6, and even though I was young, I still remember the scene where they pumped air into the j-league mascot balloon during the opening ceremony, and how I was so excited watching the balloon slowly swelling up and eventually standing upright. I was super excited then. great players from around the world would come to japan to play, and I was really very happy about that. at that time, the one player I really admired was Ramos Ruy. even though he was a foreigner, he became a representative of japan, and the way he looked while fighting on with the japanese flag on his back was really cool! I thought he was more japanese than a japanese, and he loved soccer more than anything else.

after that, rather unexpectedly (laughs), I entered the entertainment world in my 3rd year of junior high, but if I still foresee myself being able to become a representative of japan, then from tomorrow onwards I will still want to be a soccer player. alas, it's still my dream. I've been holding on to it since small, and I can't seem to erase my very first dream.

it's the same for the entertainment industry I suppose, it's a world where if you're not good enough you don't get to stay on, and I think that's cool. no matter how super smart you may be, if you're not good at doing this job, then there isn't any meaning to being part of this world, and even while thinking this, I really admire the industry. and this was severe. there were people who said that the process is more important than the result, but to me, the result is still the more important one. I've always been playing soccer, but in the end, even though I worked really hard at it, the result is that I wasn't able to become a starting member even. because in order to achieve that, no matter how much mud I have to play in, I wanted to decide on the goal. so that way of thinking continues to affect how I work now. it's a different world from soccer, and it's a place where the goals and results are difficult to foresee, but I think that I can continue to pursue my same dream from a different perspective, like in terms of giving to charity, or giving soccer balls to children around the world.

I still continue to play soccer. I look forward to playing soccer with friends, and every year, when any of us good friends have a birthday, we'd write our messages on a soccer ball. I received one too, and the message on it made me cry, and that was the first time I cried on my birthday. every year my collection grows, and these soccer balls that represent our friendship are very important to me.

[DREAM BOYS] STAGE REPORT

the musical [dream boys] opens in the tokyo imperial theatre. the musical first started in 2004, and every year it continues to evolve. this year's 2009 version involves not just kamenashi kazuya who has been in every subsequent production since the original, it gathers shibutani subaru and tegoshi yuya as part of its cast. it brings out their singing ability, extra songs written for them, and so here we present to you the stage of [dream boys], the evolved musical which makes you notice changes in the music side of it!

an exciting vocal performance that uses singing to convey their feelings

kamenashi kazuya, shibutani subaru, tegoshi yuya. they are from the same generation, but belong to 3 different groups, and this is the first time the 3 have gathered to work together on something, and the 2009 version of [dream boys] brings you this fresh new trio. the musical opens with the last stage of the internationally immensely popular showbiz characters kazuya, subaru and yuya. with a cast that has been specially chosen for their vocals, the volume, the power, and the vigour of their singing is the highlight of the show. [day by day] (kamenashi), [want you back] (tegoshi), and [dice crazy game] (shibutani) are new songs written specially for this time's [dream boys] that feature these 3 artistes and are presented one by one in the show.

10 years later. subaru becomes a boxer, and finally attains his dream of becoming a champ (shibutani), yuya who wants to be a musician, forms a group and has activities, but not doing well (tegoshi), and there's kazuya who goes through life with no aim (kamenashi). they come together in the movie that is about boxing champ subaru's later half of life, and the 3 very different roads again, merge into one... till this point, this new production has remained unchanged, the story continues to hold that theme of the bond between good friends. so while the theme has not changed, the different scenes rely much on the vocals to add depth to the story. the song that kazuya and yuya sing together, [aishiteru kara] (because I love you), you get to hear the beautiful harmony they present, and you get to see kazuya play the guitar live. the impressive piece with powerful vocals is the one where subaru and yuya sing against one another in subaru's gym, and you feel [come into my world]'s intensity. the irritation, confusion and discord is presented in this song they sing together. the strength of the presentation of their feelings hits the hearts of the audience head on, and this can be said to be a new part of this production to look out for.

the original musical as produced by johnny's, [dream boys] continues to run in the tokyo imperial theatre, but only these artistes can show that they fully understand the goodness of an original script...they've worked out all the important points of the musical, and this makes this year's version a successful one. after watching it, the audience will probably begin to hope that someday the vocalists of johnny's will come together like these three have done, and would want to watch them present a story through singing, and expressing it through a musical.

this time round, standing firm in the middle of the melting pot of power are subaru and yuya, who hold on to a clear dream. compared to them, kazuya, is still grappling with life despite being the main character, and is in a terribly difficult position. for this role, the actor himself has an unwavering idea of himself, but if there's nobody to push him forward, then he is unable to stand on his own. furthermore, every year his partners change, but he continues to cross-swords with anyone, and I really want to applaud kamenashi kazuya. shibutani uses singing as a weapon, and draws near to you with his charming voice, and while watching him harmonise with tegoshi, I feel myself standing up at that scene. there are many instances of flying, dressing up as a woman, and offer plenty of their charm. the actors carry the unwavering air of a prima donna.

"fun to the MAX, they're flying everyday!"

the musical [DREAM BOYS] with an extravagant cast from KAT-TUN, kanjani 8 and NEWS has opened! so in conjunction with the opening day, we unveil 50 photos! everyone, feel the passion of these boys who are just way too SEXY!!

3 things to look out for when watching

01. 24 minutes in the air! magnificent flying

all 3 main cast actors have expressed that, "this year's musical has evolved from last year's", and it includes kamenashi's flying. this magnificent feat was unbelievably accomplished in a mere 3 days of rehearsals, and and so he flew above the audience, and defied gravity by walking in the air. the time spent in the air is a new record of 24 minutes! the trickling perspiration down the side of this face as he flew was shone beautifully!!

02. hot guys engaged in boxing battle

the theme of the story is "friendship between men". this arises from the fight that starts between kazuya (kamenashi) and subaru (shibutani), where they have a boxing match. although the scenes where they expose their taut bodies is one point to watch, after you understand the reason behind why they're fighting one another, even the boxing scenes press painfully on your chest. the duel scenes will keep your eyes glued to the stage.

03. look forward to the show time

before the performance on the very first day, the 3 actors told the audience, "this is the first time these 3 groups have come together, and there's this extravagant feeling." at the showtime section in the later half of the performance, they performed hits such as 'seishun amigo', 'koi no abo' and 'zukkoke otokomichi', and watching them perform it together it totally worth watching. other highlights include kamenashi's dance from the musical, as well shibutani and tegoshi's singing battle!

kamenashi explains!

what's evolved from the previous work

it's been more than a year since I last worked with subaru-kun and tegoshi-kun, and there have been huge changes. everyone has been putting in fresh and new feelings, and so I too, have challenged myself to carry fresh feelings. and even though I'm saying this myself...but isn't this an extravagant musical (laughs)!? also, because there have been new songs composed for this year's, it'll be nice if those who have been watching the previous versions enjoy these new songs too. we've been taking good care of our bodies, and I want to look forward to these 2 months of performances!

the secret to flying

it's been a year, and I'm flying again! actually, the rehearsals for the flying parts were done 3 days before the actual performance (laughs). I asked the pro who guided me, "is this possible to be done?" and we discussed this before starting, and I was able to make the formation after practicing. so I'm really glad that my ideas could be used in this segment.

manly boxing

for the scene where I have my showdown with subaru-kun, I practiced with all I had during the rehearsals. even after practice time had ended, the two of us would be left practicing. I'm acting as a 'boxing amateur', so I destroyed the 'form' I had while acting as a boxer in the drama [1 pound gospel], and it turned out to be really hard to pretend to be lousy at it! but after I realised that, I was pretty happy.

tegoshi explains!

trio teamwork

this is the first time I've done a real full running stage production, so at first I was really nervous. but kamenashi-kun and subaru-kun, who were like my 'older brothers', welcomed me into the team very kindly, and I was really happy (laughs). even during the rehearsals, they taught me many things in a kind manner... and now, everyday I stand on stage enjoying myself to the max! I will work hard to maintain this condition for the next 2 months.

the intense friendship between men

in the story, the 3 of us are buddies but also rivals, but in reality, our teamwork is superb (laughs). we communicated well during the rehearsals. the theme is "friendship", so I suppose everyone decided that it was "the importance of friends". I have some really fantastic buddies, and if there's anything that angers us, we'd definitely tell one another first thing. that's because I have that 100% faith in them.

subaru explains!

creating the extravagant musical

the harmony between kamenashi-kun, tegoshi-kun and myself was more popular than the ending of the musical itself. I suggested that, "this was because it wasn't an easy thing to get the 3 of us in the same production". when we did a full run through, kamenashi-kun told me, "that part was done well", I thought, "I'm so glad I'm doing this!"

costume details

with regards to the wardrobe, I think they were based on our personalities. well of course, it's a stageplay wardrobe, so they change according to the different scenes that we do. the inclusion of western clothing during the showtime was an idea thrown in during the discussion of the musical. it's a musical that gathers 3 people who rarely get together, so a 'unifying wardrobe' is one very important point.

2009.11 oristar

the bond between men who chase after dreams

in 2004, takizawa hideaki starred in the first [DREAM BOY]. the curtains open again this year for the musical whose cast, story, and other things have gone through numerous changes. thereby showing the ability of this special collaboration of an extravagant trio.

what's DREAM BOYS

the juniors have been entrusted with the task of continuing the original stageplay put up by takizawa hideaki back in 2004, and the stageplay continues to run. through boxing, it is a story that paints the picture of youngsters growing up even in the midst of their troubles and conflicts. previously, there was a production by KAT-TUN and kanjani 8, and the one with the role of the main character, KAT-TUN's kamenashi kazuya, is the only one who has acted in all the productions to date. this year, it will be performed at the tokyo imperial theatre, and the estimated audience is a smashing 500,000 people.

STORY

kazuya, subaru and yuya have reached the top of the showbiz world, and decide to embark on their own journey to fulfil their dreams. 10 years later, the 3 meet again when making a movie on the life of subaru, who has become a boxing champ. with the unstable and tense atmosphere that goes on between kazuya and subaru, yuya's wishes cannot be fulfilled, and the 3 are thus embroiled in a scheme by an unknown higher power. what would be the fate of these men!?

kamenashi kazuya as KAZUYA

unable to finish anything he starts, even though it's been 10 years, he goes through everyday without being able to find an aim in life. and so because an old friend, yuya, had begged him, he made up his mind to take on subaru in a duel.

despite being at the top of the showbiz world, kazuya threw away that position he held fickle mindedly, and when faced with trials and tribulations that blocked his way, he resolved to "take anything that comes his way". that sincerity and willingness to take responsibility for anything that comes his way, is found in the musical's very own main actor, kamenashi kazuya. with such a theme given to him, the way he tackles this problem very frankly looks promising, and in a friendly neutral atmosphere, ties the two strong characters, subaru and tegoshi, together in a fantastic way. this is a mirror that reflects the overflowing spirit of sincerity and service in an idol.

shibutani subaru as SUBARU

he had a dream to be the best in boxing, and he attained champion status. however his body is crying out, and he is bothered greatly by his headaches. he decides that the movie about himself will be the last thing he will leave the world, and leaves his buddies some unexpected words.

boxing and music belong to different genres, but the common point between the subaru on stage and shibutani himself, is their focus on the things he wants to do. just saying that he's 'an expert at singing' or that 'he's got power in his singing' doesn't say enough for what it really is. after listening to his songs, your feelings and emotions are completely swayed, the lyrics go straight to your heart, and it's a very rich 'experience'. this time round, it's fun to be able to hear songs of different genres, and when singing the song with tegoshi during the session, the coordination with his partner brought out his suaveness, bringing out his manliness. the presence of his songs is very strong, and the times when he flies carry a playful feel to it.

tegoshi yuya as YUYA

he's always wanted to be a musician, and even though he's formed a group and they have activites going on, he goes through each day, worrying endlessly about the fact that he can't really do what he wants. when the 3 of them come together once more, it seems like a dream come true, and even though he has a plan...

tegoshi plays a character who welcomes everyone with a smile, and in order to make his dreams come true, gets everyone around him involved in it too. in the first half of the first act, the 3 reminiscence about the time when they were 17, and sing in falsetto, and you can hear his beautiful angelic voice ringing through. also, when he sings [Come Into My World] in a showdown with shibutani, [his voice] becomes strong and wild. he is unaffected by the charisma of his seniors, and does the musical with much confidence. among the 3 main cast, he is the only one does this production for the first time. as the performances go on, what new changes will he present? the audience will look forward to that.

interview

-- the brand new [DREAM BOYS] has started. how is it performing this musical as a trio?

kame: even though we say this about ourselves, we can feel the extravagance of putting us as the main cast.

-- when do you feel that?

kame: well I guess it's because it's the first time a member from kanjani 8, NEWS and KAT-TUN form a trio to do something together, so when we stand on stage, I feel a sense of extravagance that I've never felt before.

-- that's probably because each person brings in a different colour from their own groups, isn't it.

kame: indeed. it's a really fresh feeling.

-- so, isn't it a wonderful feeling when 3 of you sing together?

kame: the 3 of us sing together only for the very last song, but even so, we felt it even when we were discussing about this musical.

-- how was the first meeting together?

kame: it was a big success. (laughs)

baru: it was like 'OH YES!'

-- shibutani-san has not been part of the production for 3 years now, so after returning to this production after your break, do you feel like you've returned to it?

baru: basically my role was the same as the one I did the last time round, so there wasn't much change in feeling.

-- what about tegoshi-san who's joined for the first time?

tego: they're like my elder brothers, because they welcomed me as part of the team very kindly.

kame: after you say that, it's as if you were so difficult. (laughs)

tego: no no, it's been really fun.

-- (the scan wasn't clear at this part because that's where the magazine binding is, so I can't see the question clearly. I'm assuming it's something about having little time for rehearsals.)

kame: it seems like it, doesn't it. I didn't calculate exactly how much time, so I don't really know. but this time the rehearsal for the flying parts was done in only 3 days. the instructor was very kind when he taught me.

-- if you make just one mistake, the consequences will be really terrible right?

kame: yesterday we had a run-through, and there's this part where I go into this cube, but I forgot and retreated instead, and I got yelled at. (laughs)

-- but if you float by that wire alone, when you come down at the end of the whole thing, don't you feel sort of weird?

kame: it's true that I get a really strange feeling. and because of that, there are times when I think that I have to be connected to the wire even when I'm wearing my costumes.

-- so in the end all 3 fly together, right? does shibutani-san wish to fly more?

baru: actually I really hate it. that's why I don't want the last part to come.

-- but there's the rope around your leg.

baru: that's to look like the other two. (laughs)

-- lastly, which parts would you like the audience to look forward to? please leave a message here.

tego: at first, honestly, there were parts that I felt uneasy about, but while going through the rehearsals we were able to communicate, and I was also able to look forward to them, and I want everyone to feel the fun that I had. I hope that everyone will look forward to the production.

kame: for those who have been catching each and every [DREAM BOYS] production faithfully, and even for those who are watching for the first time, I can feel that this year's production has evolved a lot. I hope that you also get this sense of being in an unreal world.

baru: it's rare that such a group gets together on stage, so I really look forward to this, and I want to make the performance time an important time, so I guess all who come to watch us will feel a 'premium' sort of feeling? if everyone could look forward to watching this rare combination, (I will be happy). (this last bit was cut off in the scan, so I'm assuming this is what baru might have said.)

article

(first line? first two lines? cut off, so here's the rest that makes sense.)

there is a sense of 'fighting' involved. fighting with self, fighting with dreams, fighting with rivals, fighting with time... in a world where facing people and fighting with people results in both good and bad consequences, the characters fight to win each and every challenge that comes their way with all their lives. how would they do? the audience's hearts will be sent a-swaying.

the biggest feature of the musical [DREAM BOYS] is that 'fighting to show' idea that is placed throughout the musical, in the dances and performances. this time, the main character kamenashi, stretches himself more than anybody else, and there are roughly 18 times where he takes off into the air, and spins in midair. during the live tour he also performed [aishiteru kara] (because I love you) with just a guitar, and presented the song like this. with regards to the script, songs and dance, he answered all questions at the press conference, and his attitude and enthusiasm in accomplishing a job that takes so much out of him is admirable.

worthy of special mention for this year is that there's an added 'fighting to make you listen' element too. especially for the song put up by shibutani and tegoshi, [Come Into My World], has a real threatening sound. as yuya, who has unfortunately been dragged into the whole problem for the sake of obtaining his dream, sings out in a clear voice, 'I want your strength', subaru, who has become a boxing champ on his own strength, replies with a powerful but magmanimous voice, 'become strong then'. their singing ability has been well acknowledged, but when you put subaru, who has a voice that calls out your soul, and whose voice has that special element of having shadows in its toughness, with tegoshi, whose voice is clear and carefree and gentle, into one song, you can take in the goodness bit by bit of this collaboration. after more and more performances, I look forward to see how their singing may change.

a tingling sensation is in the air as the musical twists suddenly, and the showtime part, done in a freestyle manner is brilliant. after all the fighting, they seem to praise one another, and it is certainly a refreshing time.

DREAM BOYS doriimu booizu

overflowing with a premium feeling . the moment of your dream

KAT-TUN's kamenashi kazuya, kanjani 8's shibutani subaru and NEWS' tegoshi yuya put up the opening show of [dream boys] on the 4th of september at the tokyo imperial theatre. with their brilliant acrobatic stunts and performances, the instant the overwhelming premium feel comes over you is like a dream.

2009's [dream boys] has finally opened! this year's main cast has kamenashi kazuya, who has been in every production since 2004's, shibutani subaru and tegoshi yuya, thereby gathering 3 people known best for their singing!! A.B.C.-Z and other johnny juniors add on to the extravagant lineup.

"kanjani 8, NEWS and KAT-TUN. with regards to the gathering of members from these 3 teams, I too, think it is really extravagant. I feel an intensity that I've never felt before!" (kamenashi)

the last production shibutani subaru was in was 2006's [KAT-TUN vs KANJANI8 dream boys].

"it's been 3 years since the last one, but my role is the same as the previous production. (my motivation) has not changed. it's the first time 3 of us are acting together, but there doesn't seem to be any conflicts between us at all!" (subaru)

also, there's tegoshi yuya who is not just the only one among the 3 who is doing this for the first time, but also the youngest actor.

"my two elder brothers (kamenashi & subaru) welcomed me very kindly, and I was very glad for that. I'm having fun everyday!" (tegoshi)

by gathering 3 people who 'can sing', the music for the show has changed completely. the show starts with the last scene of kazuya, with immense popularity in the showbiz world (kamenashi), subaru (subaru) and yuya (tegoshi), and a song they suddenly composed is unveiled. in their solo performances, their own personalities are presented as they are through well known songs. the singing scenes are different, but in the musical, kazuya and yuya sing [aishiteru kara] (because I love you), subaru and yuya have a vocal battle in [Come Into My World], and you've got to watch these rare collaborations! speaking of collaborations, even during the showtime part, the 3 of them sing hit songs from their own groups, and this [dream boys] version is certainly not to be missed!!

if you talk about [dream boys], then the dynamic acrobatics is the biggest draw of the show. and this year, kamenashi challenges his own record. he starts with using a long piece of cloth to fly, then on the stage he walks on the perimeter of this huge frame, making this 'frame flying' a new piece of action. besides kamenashi, who has such a strong body, probably no one else could pull this off. furthermore, he flies 18 times through the whole show, and his total flight time is a shocking 24 minutes, thereby breaking previous records!

"when I'm flying, there's this really curious atmosphere that happens. when I wear costumes for the parts where I don't fly, I think to myself, "somehow I need to have (the flying equipment) attached to these too". (laughs)" (kamenashi)

the performances in tokyo will run until the 29th of september, then the performances in osaka's umeda arts theatre will run from 13th october to 25th october. for both those who have seen it and those who have not seen it yet, I hope that you will be able to feel the flying of [dream boys]. you will certainly enjoy it so much that you forget the time!

[dream boys], an ongoing musical whose cast depends on popular talents from johnny's entertainment. in 2004, takizawa hideaki was the lead role in [magical musical dream boys], and since then the musical has continued to evolve, and this year's performance has an audience exceeding 500,000 people. so far KAT-TUN, kanjani 8, yara tomoyuki (M.A.), yabu kota (Hey!Say!JUMP) have performed, and they have each encaptured fans with their unique flavour, but the only action that everyone wants to watch is from the only one who has been involved in every production, kamenashi kazuya. with intense acting, and of course dancing, and since 2007, the number of times he flies and the amount of time spent in the air have new records too, and so [dream boys] has become a representative work of his.

the biggest draw of this musical is the story of the intense friendship and bond between men. also included are the dynamic dances and acrobatics, illusions etc. that together form an entertainment show. in front of my eyes unfold an overwhelming feeling of being at a live. and I'm sure all the audiences will experience becoming a prisoner of it.

the flying is so close to the audience that you feel as though if you reached your hand out, you might touch them, and the equipment right at the front of the stage can be moved around freely, making it an exciting performance, as you feel like you are constructing the musical along with the cast...it really becomes an addiction.

and then this year, there's even more to look forward to as the 2009 version has 2 people who use 'singing' as their weapons, shibutani subaru (kanjani 8) and tegoshi yuya (NEWS) added to the main cast. the overwhelming volume and clarity of voice is heard from subaru, and from tegoshi comes a voice that easily expresses itself fully when the need arises. with the addition of the 2 of them comes more compositions specially written for this year's production, and the song that includes kamenashi as well is a huge draw in itself. the song they sing altogther, [I am Always Here] has them sing solo one by one, but the highlight is when the 3 voices come together in harmony. this new chemistry between them is stunning. there are many elements of a musical also infused into the script, and the characters that appear onstage use songs to convey their thoughts directly, making it sound real. especially for the fans of shibutani and tegoshi, there's nobody else who could fully bring out the depth of the song's charm. this year focuses on the evolution of 'singing', and this possibility could be expanded in [dream boys], raising the standard greatly for a ground-breaking performance.

"because my two elder brothers welcomed me kindly"

after the public rehearsal was over, the 3 came for the press conference. even though they had to cross groups to make this one production, the 3 of them looked extremely at ease with one another. when asked for his reaction for that day, kamenashi commented, "this is such a luxurious lineup!! even though I'm saying this about myself (laughs). because till now we've been doing different things in our own teams, so when the 3 of us stand on stage together...it's a feeling I've never had before." for shibutani who has not acted in this production for 3 years, he smiled as he said, "it's a huge success. it's like we did it! (laughs) because my present character is basically the same as the previous one I did, so I got into the role easily." and for tegoshi who has joined the production for the first time, he said, "because my two elder brother welcomed me kindly" so happily, and the two of them upon seeing that, kamenashi immediately cut in saying, "after you say that, it's like you were very difficult, isn't it! (laughs)", catching tegoshi on the spot.

"I was given this chance to look forward to this surreal world"

"no no no I didn't mean that!" replied a laughing tegoshi, continuing earnestly with, "I personally love singing and dancing, so I'm having loads of fun."

with regards to their singing, shibutani said, "it's something new, isn't it", and it seems like this time's production is especially ambitious. when asked if they feel like they're rivals since they're pretty close in terms of age, tegoshi replied, "we're more like a team rather than rivals", and kamenashi answered with "we usually think about the overall balance instead", and I could feel that they prized making a good musical above the fact that they were colleagues in the same company. at the end tegoshi said, "there were parts that I wasn't sure of, but as the rehearsals went on I had improved communication with the other 2. I had a fair amount of fun, so I hope that everyone will look forward to this!" with much vigour. shibutani said, "it's rare that such a group gets together on stage, so I really look forward to this, and I want to make the performance time an important time where I have fun as well." kamenashi said, "this is the first time I'm doing something with tegoshi, and the flying has evolved so much too. so if you could look forward to being part of this 'surreal universe'," thereby fervently telling us the highlight of the whole show.
