I had woken awake with a gasp as I'd done for the past few nights at the hospital. I look over to my right at the digital clock that sat on my bedside table: 2:30AM. That was the longest I'd ever slept since...well, since the night of the fight with the bringers. I still couldn't get it through my head that they were gone. It really put things in ( Read more... )

I wandered the halls of the hospital. I couldn't sleep at nights anymore. Everytime a shadow would move across the wall I would panic. So I had taken to sleeping in the afternoons and exploring the hospital at night ( ... )

Still lying awake, when I heard a voice, I let out a small gasp. Every time I heard an unexpected noise, a fast blur of images of the Bringers rushed through my mind. But it was Colleen.

"Hey, yeah," I told her, sitting up. Looking at her. She looked equally as sleep-deprived and she was wearing hospital clothes.

"I like the outfit," I said pointing at her. "Where did you get that?" I asked, trying to avoid the subject of the fight, though I knew it eventually would come up. So many people were gone, and . . . well, it was going to be hard to not talk about such a big thing sooner or later, I thought.

And then there were other big things to be discussed: if we're going back to training, for instance, or where we're going to stay, or if Wolfram and Hart are going to send us back home. I'd had a lot of time to think while I was in the hospital, and I wasn't sure if that was a good thing.

I gently padded into the room, and switched on the small beside lamp that sat on Amanda's nightstand. It cast a warm glow through the room that I was sure neither Amanda or I would feel. I settled myself down at the foot of her bed and tucked my feet up underneath me. I grinned sheepishly as she mentioned my new threads.

"One of the late shift nurses, Vanessa, knew that I couldn't sleep at night so she snuck some scrubs into my room for me so that I can wander around the hospital at night without getting into trouble. All you have to do is carry a clipboard around and look busy. No one will look twice at you. I could always have her get you a pair too. We could be stealthy night buddies. Seeing everything, seen by no one." I grinned cheesily at my stupid joke before clearing my throat as the silence again set in.
