Chris had come to Nate brokenhearted for his little brother after he and Sebastian went to see Kurt in the hospital. The big brother thing was something that Chris took very seriously, and when he'd seen Seb hurting, his first mental reaction was that Seb should talk to Nate about what was going on. But they'd both known Seb wasn't going to ask for that kind of help, and it was up to them to try and get him to talk ( ... )

Sebastian had barely been paying attention, and when Nathan spoke to him, he have a distracted blink and looked up at Nathan blankly for a moment only to realise it was him that was being addressed. He knew he was being rude, but he couldn't help it. He was struggling to shake the imagine of Kurt lying there in the hospital bed looking as ill as he could, no hair, pale, hooked up to tubes feeding him medications to try and heal him, or even just reduce the extensive pain and discomfort the disease was causing him. It had been some sort of weird sense of apologetic obligation that had him feeling like he should go visit Kurt, but not a single fucking thing could have prepared him for the actual enormity of it, and it hit him hard"Um... just black, thanks," he eventually responded. Nate was totally and completely unused to this side of his brother-in-law. Jez was always the one attuned to other people's emotions, while Seb remained ever the cool, collected bitch. But this was not cool or collected, and Nate had to gather himself for a moment. In fact, if it hadn't been for Nate's utter and complete trust of his husband, he might not have believed Chris when he told him that Sebastian had broken down over Kurt. It wasn't that Nate thought the older of his twin brothers-in-law was entirely emotionless so much as that he just managed to keep his emotions under control most of the time ( ... )

The tea remained untouched, even if Sebastian rested his fingertips on the exterior of the mug when it was slid over the table in his direction. It gave him something to avert his gaze to briefly too because as soon as Nathan started to talk about it, that lump was back in Sebastian throat and he felt like he was going to break down again. He tried to bite down sharply on the inside of his lip to fight it back, but the tickle was there at the back of his nose and the stinging in his eyes. Normally he would have gotten up and abruptly left the room at that point, but he was just so damn exhausted that if he tried to pull a flounce, the tears would be coming before he got out of the room anyway ( ... )
