Seriously. It's true. "Merits" is happily updated for the first time since 2012. Testify!

The heart of the matter is, sometimes following specific fanfic authors helps. A couple I follow on Tumblr have recommendation lists which features other fanfic authors who write in the same fandom and suggestions from fellow readers. One lady I follow has a rec list of what books to read instead of FSOG. It was quite funny at first, but I loved her list. Its how I stumbled upon the Crossfire series. Sylvia Day is one of the best adult authors I've come across till date.
Following fandom works also doesn't come with guarantees. You may like the work of one author and you may detest the work of the next because how it doesn't play to the thoughts and ideas and the language you expected from them or for whatever reason. So trial and error is the best at the end of the day.
