This is not the Doctor's house. That's a mistake that absolutely must not be made. The Doctor doesn't have a house, and if he did, it wouldn't be a house with a white picket fence and windows and curtains and doors-
Alright, it's possible the Doctor's taking offense to the basic components that make up a house, but the point still stands.
This isn't his house. It's just a house where Des and Martha happen to live, and where he's keeping his hideous cat creature, and that he might visit occasionally, when he feels like it.
Apparently, he feels like it at two in the morning, wandering up to the back door - where there's a swingset and a slide in the yard, as apparently the previous occupants had children - unlocking the door with his sonic screwdriver and slipping quietly inside. Well, he doesn't want to wake anyone.
