The end of the Conrad [forward timed to 12pm]
[OOC: Party/disaster thread! Make threads for pre-destruction leading into destruction, during the destruction, and post destruction. Timey wimey, etc. Obviously, if you're under the rubble, you're only going to be near a limited number of people]
The city of Chicago had no idea that the Rift preshock that occurred earlier in the week was only an indication of what was to come.
At approximately 11:30am, a crack appears in one of the middle floors of the center of the Conrad hotel. The guests in the room notice it. They file a complaint. They want a crackless room, thank you. They are moved to a room with four blank walls that's two doors down, free of charge.
At 11:50am, the crack widens. It's not enough to make a difference to the state of the hotel yet, but it splinters out throughout the room and the empty room next to it, like a dam that's about to break.
At 12pm, the hotel shifts.
The rift grows to gigantic proportions. It presses through the wall, widening the crack until the walls above and below the room are filled with cracks as well, weakening from the strength of the rift cutting through them. The building starts to tremble and then shake.
There's no time for most to escape. The rift widens and destroys the hotel from the inside out. Walls and metal tumble down or get sucked into the Rift, falling on top of people, angels, and any other living creature in or around the hotel.
At 12:10pm, the Conrad hotel is gone. A mountain of rubble is all that exists in its place.
Within the destruction in the basement, people are trapped. High above the mess, a wide rift floats that's as wide as the building that once was standing there. At 12:30pm, the first monster tumbles out of it. It's hungry, and an hour later, it's followed by several more.
The police, ambulances, and fire department arrive. They try to set up perimeters and stabilize the environment, but it's hard to control the chaos when monsters keep spilling through the Rift. People are already working at the rubble, trying to dig through it to see if anyone lives beneath the rocks. Medical tents are being set up to deal with the less critically injured and the critical injuries when there are no ambulances available.
