Not much time has passed for Cassie Riddle in the time she’s been away from Chicago, only two days - to be exact. She found herself stuck in some bizzare mini-world that was almost the exact double of a gameshow she used to watch as a child called ‘Fun House’. Except this one doesn’t have nice prizes or fun games and is a lot harder than she ever ( Read more... )

Bela's seen the Rift do a lot of crazy things in her short time in Chicago, but this most likely takes the cake by a long shot. It's not very often that she sees a man get hit by a car that hard, and live to sit up and complain about it.

For a moment, it almost takes the cake. Almost.

Regardless, what few selfless instincts she has kicks in, and she's jogging forward, reaching for his shoulders to get him out of the road some more. "Are you alright?"

Doyle would like to say that hitting someone with their car and driving off certainly takes the cake more than anything else. Mustn't have insurance. Oh, dear.

He dabs at the graze on his head with his jacket sleeve with pained face and shakes his head. Just once, he'd like to go a month without dying or being severely injured. That would be lovely. He looks up to someone who's speaking to him and frowns at the concern in her features.

Oh, right... the car.

"Oh, I'm just dandy, darlin'" he says with a cheerful smile, "I'll be tap dancin' on bars for pennies in no time,"

He takes a moment to reach forward to snap a bone back into place, "Oh, Jesus!" he yelps in pain. That definitely hurt. Definitely. "That bit hurt more than the bloody bumper,"

She cringes even more when he goes to snap the bone back into place, and she's not squeamish by any means. Something about watching someone set their own bones makes her queasy, and she steps away.

"How ... how did this happen?"

Doyle probably wouldn't blame her. It's not fun for him to do, let alone for anyone else around to watch. He straightens his legs out slowly, clenching his teeth to stop himself shouting out any more.

Sitting back a little once he's done this, he raises his eyebrows at her question.

"Isn't that one obvious there, darlin'?" he says, "What else causes strange things t'happen?"

He shakes his head, "I can't die, ever. No matter what seems to happen, I always seem to pop up again, fresh as a daisy?"

"Yes, well. You think a rift power would be something simple, yeah? Preventing death is quite the leap."

It's actually kind of scary that the rift has that much power. Nothing should be able to interfere with death in that way -- no matter how much she may want to escape it.

"Nothin's ever simple, darlin'" he says with raised eyebrows in an all-knowing tone. "Especially some place like Chicago and that bleedin' Rift,"

"It's some lucky leap, eh?" Doyle is pretty laid-back on the whole not-dying thing. He can live with it. The narration feels this is some kind of pun and hides in shame.

He waits for his legs to heal back up, but it's a slow process, bones sinking back into place and muscles healing over takes time.

"I'm Doyle," he says brightly, "I'd get up, but I need a few minutes,"

"Bela," she says softly. "And yes ... don't get up on my account."

She doesn't want him to break something again.
