On July 4th, there is another wanderer community event for the first time since March when a bomber nearly killed everyone that attended but instead killed two people who chose to sacrifice themselves so the rest could live. These two people were friends of many including Martha Jones, but it is important to move forward and not let grief stop them ( Read more... )

Veronica isn't sure why she came. Big group events aren't exactly her thing. But she finds herself here, anyway, in hopes of making catching a break and taking a breather from the information dumping she's been on the receiving end of.

She doesn't stick to anyone as she arrives, watching as everyone disperses to all corners of the compass. She walks around for a few minutes, taking in the sights, before finding herself gravitating towards the carousel. She stands, watching it, as it goes round and round. She remembers her mother used to take her to one when she was younger. It's one of the few happy memories Veronica allows herself to keep about her mother. Maybe she wasn't as selfish as Veronica, and Lianne herself, sometimes made her out to be.

She doesn't have plans to hop onto any of the rides, much less the carousel, but she's content to people-watch and get out in the sun and see what these people - these Wanderers - did. She stays standing by the carousel, watching it as it goes round and round.

Oh shit. Usually she's more on the ball with what she knows about people. She's quite efficient in the blackmail department. But the last thing she wants to do is blackmail Castiel. He hasn't given her any reason to. He's nice.

"Shawn," she feels slightly bad for dobbing him in. "He explained the whole demons and angels thing of this place and happened to mention you." And to somehow lighten the mood, she jokes, "I didn't think he was serious about the trenchcoat. But you fit your reputation."

Ah, Shawn. The odd man with the boat. Not that there aren't a lot of odd people on this side of the Rift, but Shawn is definitely up there with his strange behavior.

"Did he explain that I am different from most of the angels around here?"

He explained it to Shawn, during the flood. But he can't say that the man understood it. Some people didn't.

Shawn is awesome, Castiel's internal monologue.

"Sort of. It was kind of difficult since angels don't really exist in my world except in scripture. But he did his best." Veronica gives him a useless shrug. "You're one of the good guys here.

But something tells me you're implying you're different from the other angels who happen to have been sucked in here."

"No. Most of the angels and demons that are here are not Wanderers. They are natives to this place. There are some Wanderers who are similiar biologically, but they come from an alternate Chicago."

He pauses for a moment, giving her a chance to process that before continuing. "I am an angel of the Lord."

Veronica's eyebrows raise at that.

"If you are - not saying that you aren't - why are you still here? Wouldn't God pull you out from here? That sounds like a pretty serious title to have."

"I do not believe my father has ... jurisdiction in this universe. Once I crossed through the Rift, I was beyond the point where he could help." Not that he probably would in the first place. It's a complicated relationship, Castiel and his father.

Nellie has been all over the place today just trying to enjoy herself. Right now she's wandering around with a giant bag of cotton candy, and she's gazing up at the massive Ferris Wheel.

Clearly this means she isn't watching where she's going, and obviously this means she's going to walk into Veronica. She yelps slightly and almost drops her treat, but catches it. She looks at the girl she ran into with wide eyes.

"Oh god, I'm so sorry. You okay?"

Veronica takes a few steps due to the collision, also trying to catch the bag of cotton candy just in case Nellie doesn't. Lucky for her, Nellie does. Catching things was never her strong suit for sport. She gives her a smile, nodding, "Yeah, I'm fine. I wouldn't be surprised if a giant bag of cotton candy was a murder weapon in this place." Veronica only hopes her attempt at humour will lessen the wideness of Nellie's eyes. "Besides, thanks for the wake up call. I forgot how carousels can just suck you in once you start watching them."

Luckily Nellie would never let her cotton candy stray too far. She gives the girl a smile and glances towards the carousel. "Yeah you gotta be careful," she says. "Those bastards can make ya dizzy even if you're not on them. But I don't know, I always found 'em kinda boring."

She tucks her hair behind her ear and looks back at Veronica.

"They're not the most exciting rides," Veronica muses. She spares a glance at Nellie. "It just reminds me of home. Much happier times, you know?" She figures it must be okay to be a little honest. She doesn't think that anyone here would really know her, unless they were from home.

Then, to lift the mood, "You a rollercoaster kind of girl?"

Nellie nods at that. She definitely knows. "A lot easier, too. Easier than bein' in this place."

She pauses for a moment to consider that, and when Veronica speaks again she beams. "Oh absolutely. What's a theme park without a rollercoaster?"?

"Obviously not a theme park," she smiles. "It's been a while since I've been on one, but, despite the fact I always thought I'd fall out of the seat, I kind of enjoyed it." Memories of her mom, her dad, even her friends before everything went to crap, a rollercoaster was in it. She sighs. "Have you been here long? At the carnival?"

She grins. "Obviously not. And I don't think you'll fall outta your seat. If you do? I'll grab on and catch you. Or I'll try."

She glances at her watch. "Couple hours by now," she replies. "Just been...hangin' out and takin' it all in. Keep runnin' into people I know so that helps the time pass."

Veronica grins. "I appreciate it. Super strength your Rift ability?" And the detective hat is on.

"It must. I've run into a few people I've met and a few I haven't had the pleasure of meeting. Everyone seems kind of nice, despite everything." Which Veronica finds incredibly weird. Being met with hostility she can do, but people willingly being nice? It takes some time getting used to it.

She frowns for a moment at that, then tips her head a bit and laughs. "Oh, no. I mean, I wish it was. My ability isn't really an ability. I kinda...shapeshift into a younger version of myself. It's embarrassing."

She then nods. "Yeah, people around here are pretty nice. You been meeting a lot of them?"
